Early 2000 Christmas ⛄️🎅🏻🎄♥️

Everyone always talks about wishing Christmas felt like it did back when we were kids. In my opinion, Christmas is how you make it. Make Christmas feel magical again! It’s up to you! ♥️

Here is what I am doing:

• Lots of Christmas movies 🎬✨

Nothing brings back that childhood magic like curling up with classic Christmas movies. I prefer nostalgic films I watched growing up, having them on in the background instantly makes the season feel warm, cozy, and familiar.

• Classic decorations used year after year 🎄🧸

Just like as a kid, there is something so special about pulling out the same decorations every year. The ones with history, memories, and maybe even a little wear. We got most of our decorations this year as we just moved out together for the first time, but we thrifted/got decor we hope will last us for years and years to come. Trends don’t create nostalgia.

• Doing Christmas events in our town 🏙️❄️

Local holiday events are such a perfect way to bring back that childhood excitement. From tree lightings to craft fairs. It is super cold where we live so sometimes I’d rather stay in, but forcing myself to go, creates memories that make me feel the Christmas spirit, and they make me feel like I am in a hallmark movie!

• Homemade Ornaments❤️

As a kid aesthetic didn’t matter, our tree was full of homemade ornaments. It is so simple but really gives you a warm feeling. I’m not much of a crafter, but this year we made homemade ornaments out of dough because we didn’t wanna spend money decorating a tree for the first time. It was so fun to make them and paint them. Now our tree is filled with fun ornaments that we got to customize AND attach our memories to.

• Classic wrapping paper on our gifts 🎁⭐

When I saw these at Walmart I had to get them. There’s just something about old-school wrapping paper that brings back those childhood Christmas mornings. I love Disney and those old Christmas cartoons. Seeing presents wrapped in classic wrapping paper under the tree makes me SO happy.

• Decorating our balcony 🌟🏡

Turning the balcony into a mini winter wonderland was so fun! Twinkly lights, garland, and cozy touches make it feel like my childhood home. I love how it gives a warm look to a cold, dark space.

• Matching Christmas PJs 🎅🏼🛌

Matching pajamas instantly add that playful, kid-at-heart energy to the season. I wear them for movie nights, baking, or waking I will for waking up on Christmas morning.

• Christmas music playing all the time 🎶✨

I remember falling asleep to Christmas music every night as a kid and now Christmas music is on 24/7 in our apartment and in my car. We made a huge playlist in November featuring all our old and new favorites. It adds a little extra fun and nostalgia to the apartment!

• Couples advent calendar ❤️📅

We wrote up 24 fun date ideas and put them in a jar. Every day we pick one thing to do. Not only is it fun and brings us closer, it forces us to enjoy the season!

Some of our ideas were; driving around and looking at Christmas lights, making a festive drink, no screen time night, wrapping presents for friends and family, making a gingerbread house, and so much more.

... Read moreBringing back the true spirit of Christmas from the early 2000s is all about embracing traditions that evoke warmth, nostalgia, and personal memories. One of the key ways to recreate that special feeling is through cozy Christmas movie nights. Watching classic holiday films, especially those that defined your childhood, provides an immediate connection to those simpler times and fills your home with comfort and joy. Consider compiling a playlist of holiday movies from that era for repeated enjoyment throughout the season. Another critical element is the use of classic decorations that have sentimental value. Instead of chasing trendy decor each year, focus on ornaments and decorations passed down or thrifted, which carry stories and history. For example, homemade ornaments made from dough or crafts can add a unique, personalized touch, just like childhood Christmas trees filled with imperfect but cherished decorations. Engaging in local Christmas events is a wonderful practice to awaken the excitement of the season. Despite the cold, participating in tree lightings, craft fairs, or festive community gatherings can evoke feelings similar to those hallmark Christmas movies many grew up loving. These outings create shared experiences and memories akin to the magic of childhood holidays. Classic wrapping paper and themed gift presentations also play a subtle but powerful role in nostalgia. Choosing old-school wrapping styles featuring beloved characters or traditional patterns adds to the unfolding story of a heartfelt Christmas morning. Creating a festive mini winter wonderland, such as decorating a balcony with twinkly lights and garlands, transforms otherwise cold spaces into warm, inviting places that mirror childhood homes. This ambiance can uplift spirits and set a joyous tone throughout the season. Another fun and engaging tradition is wearing matching Christmas pajamas. This playful ritual adds an element of togetherness and fun that keeps the kid-at-heart energy alive. It’s perfect for all activities from movie nights to holiday baking sessions. Music cannot be overlooked when it comes to nurturing holiday nostalgia. Playing a playlist of early 2000s Christmas songs around the clock fills your environment with the sounds that define the season for many, triggering fond memories and boosting the festive mood. Lastly, a couples advent calendar filled with daily date ideas fosters meaningful connections while celebrating the holiday. Activities such as driving to view Christmas lights, making festive drinks, or wrapping presents encourage stepping away from screens and focusing on togetherness. Incorporating these traditions and ideas, especially in places like Minnesota where winters are long and cold, can truly bring back the feeling of Christmas as it was in your childhood. It’s these tangible expressions of love, warmth, and shared moments that make the season magical and memorable year after year.
