🌶️🌶️ NEW CATEGORY ALERT!! 🌶️🌶️

i read romance this month. my 🌶️ rating is not how much nsfw there is but what kind of content it is. if its boring and lacking of detail it gets a low rating, if its hot and detailed, it gets a higher rating.

📖 How to Solve your Own Murder - 4 days

by Kristen Perrin

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

a great murder mystery. i did not see the answer coming. as we all know i LOVE a multi pov. but multi pov split between decades?? AMAZING. a very original concept.

the pacing of the book was amazing as well, by 30% i was hooked and just enough had started to happen that i already knew the rest of the book would be paced properly as well.

i will wait (impatiently) for the second of the series.

📕 Hell Followed With Us - 3 days

while the concept of this book sounds great, its just not. its basically if covid created a religion based apocalyptic world. which makes sense since it was written pretty much during the immediate aftermath of covid. and while it started out strong, the selling point of this book is that this kid is on the run, and at no point up to the 24% mark does it seem like he actually IS on the run. hes 1. not hiding at all 2. isnt even really afraid that someone might be after him?? during multiple points he leaves his “safe haven” to meet with STRANGERS with no question to who. and on the other hand this “safe haven” is afraid of these militants who the main character is running from and at no point is there further evidence of them existing (up to this point) theyre just a vague threat in the memory of the main character. aside from the first like 2 chapters while the main character is actively running away.

and the book went from first person pov to, third person.. then back.. which makes no sense to me. while that CAN be done well, and ive seen it done well, it was not in this book. the third person pov was very limited in details. it did not paint a scene well at all.. and while that is an issue thru the first portion in general this was even more lacking.

while i can get past the glaringly obvious mirroring of covid and the divide of how people handled it, i cannot get past bad writing, scene creating, and pacing.

📘Lord Of The Flies - 3 days

by William Golding

⭐️⭐️

honestly i read this because of a vague memory from highschool and the fact it is a challenged book. and honestly, the only reason it should be banned is because it is horribly boring for the first 100 or so pages. its just boys bickering and even then, its extremely hard to follow conversations between everyone because conversations are never signed. its just voices being thrown on a page. aside from just not liking endless talking, its just not good. no wonder high schoolers just don’t want to read, we were constantly thrown “classics” that are just not fucking good.

it goes from mostly normal, given the circumstances, to horribly savage in the matter of a few pages. character development(or well, degrading) is impossible to follow because you have no idea who’s doing what 90% of the time. they go from fighting about who should talk to literally murder in what feels like 3 seconds with no growth to that level.

i feel like if this concept was rewritten and done with more thought and care.. youd get well, Lost(the show).

📙Local Woman Missing - 5 days

by Mary Kubica

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

i definitely understand why some people arent into it, or dnf it. for about half the book it feels like its going nowhere. it can also be confusing to keep track of the timeline. while linear it does jump around alot from the past to the present. for a large majority of the book it was riding a 3⭐️ for me but the ending and finding out the mystery of it all brought it up to a 4. while it is a 4, i probably wouldnt read it again.

tw: now im not one for trigger warnings, however for women wanting to read this i will warn you. there is a few graphic chapters regarding an asshole obgyn and a traumatic birth experience.

📗Ugly Love - 6 days

LOOK ✋ i KNOW its COHO okay!? I KNOW. and i KNOW its THAT book with the weird ass balls comment.. we’re gunna look past it okay?? because after a WEEK of struggle bussing my way thru this i read like 40% of it in a day. roller coaster is not even good enough of a way to describe the shit i have experienced today. and like yes, the writing. terrible. the plot? kinda not existent. but the emotions my brain have been put thru for these two dumbasses is not fucking okay and is the only reason this is getting a good rating. i was actually out loud yelling at this fucking book because the way i wanted to strangle these two mother fuckers okay.. and im sorry but if a book can make me do that.. its a good rating. literally anything i say about this book will be a fucking spoiler but like just thank fucking god because if it didnt end how it did i would have been committing crimes.
