“The Winning Play” 🏀 Review

Hey Y’all!! I received this ARC of “The Winning Play” by Lauren Lacey in exchange for my honest review!!

✨All I can say is Wow!!!! I absolutely loved this book from start to finish!! It really took you on a complete journey and I loved every minute of it!!

The story revolves around the lives of Charlotte Daniels (Lottie) and Sebastian Boom (Bash). They met in their senior year of college and both of their lives are changed forever!!

The story showcases the ups and downs of their personal lives and their relationship. The good, the bad and the ugly! When I tell you the emotional roller coaster this book takes you on is something else!!! it will have you stressed, happy, crying, mad, annoyed, ready to fight lol all the emotions really!!

A cool unique thing about this book is that it follows them from the ages of 21 until their 30s. It is a lot of ground to cover but it was totally worth the read!! I was never bored the entire time reading this book.

From love, loss, betrayal and loyalty this book will have you on the edge of your seat. If you’re into Friends to Lovers tropes then this is the book for you!!

This book does deal with some heavier topics so keep that in mind before you start reading.

I really have to break this down in a longer review for y’all! Stay tuned for that!!

For me this book gets a ⭐️5/5. This is for sure one of the best books I have read this year so far!!

I’m really excited to explore more of Lauren Lacey’s work!

If you haven’t already you need to add this book to your TBR📚

... Read moreReading "The Winning Play" truly felt like being part of a deeply emotional and evolving journey. What stood out most to me was how the story unfolds over nearly a decade, which gave the characters' relationship depth and realism rarely captured so well in romance novels. Watching Charlotte and Bash navigate the complexities of their friendship turning into love was both heartwarming and intense. One aspect I appreciated was the sports romance angle woven seamlessly with the friends-to-lovers trope. The details about their college years and involvement with sports added a unique backdrop that made the love story feel fresh and engaging. The book doesn’t shy away from tackling heavy themes such as betrayal and loss, which added layers to the narrative and made the moments of joy more impactful. From my perspective, the pacing maintained a perfect balance—never boring, always compelling. The author’s ability to evoke a full spectrum of emotions, from laughter to tears, kept me fully invested. If you love stories that blend romance with life’s real challenges set in a sports environment, this book is a must-read. Finally, the authenticity in how the characters grow and deal with personal struggles reminded me that love stories can be messy but beautiful. The emotional depth paired with a strong sports romance theme makes Lauren Lacey’s novel stand out in the genre. This book deserves a spot on every romance reader’s bookshelf, especially those who enjoy well-developed characters and heartfelt friendships evolving into love.
