In the 1990s, Robin Williams added a clause to his film contracts requiring production companies to hire a certain number of homeless people as paid workers on set. Across his films, this policy resulted in hundreds of homeless individuals being employed—often cited as over 600 people in total.
These were legitimate jobs (production assistants, set support, catering help, etc.), not symbolic gestures. People were paid and treated like any other crew member.
He didn't announce this publicly or use it for press. The practice became widely known only later through industry accounts and tributes after his death.
