Reasons I Love My Phone Setup: Part One

5 Different Focus Modes?

Yes.

Focus Modes is where my obsession with changing and organizing my phone began.

I was getting so overwhelmed with all of the work notifications after-hours. It was making it hard to focus on life and family. It felt like I was on the clock almost 24/7.

Now I have different focus modes scheduled to auto switch depending on the day of the week and time of day.

- on the clock: self explainable. It’s for working. Auto turns on at 8am when our phone line opens up. All work related apps are easily accessible and i get notifications from only work related apps so can i stay focused on my tasks for the day instead of getting distracted when a non-essential notification comes through.

- chill: auto turns on at 5pm after work hours. Blocks all work related app notifications, allows minimum notifications from other apps so i can focus on family, life and completing errands and chores around the home like laundry, cooking healthy meals, etc.

- zen den: blocks pretty much everything except phone calls from a certain few people so that i do not have the urge to pick it up after it’s put down for the night. This has been a bit of a game changer for nights. I can focus much better on anything else I need to do before going to sleep for the night.

- morning: this one still needs a little work as the Home Screen is not fully setup to help me be that 5am morning person i would like to be. But it allows emails to come through so that i can see what my boss sends me for the day and texts in case the technicians need me before ‘on the clock’ starts at 8am.

I am still working on maximizing the lock screen widgets for ultimate productivity. Suggestions? Drop them below.

... Read moreIncorporating multiple Focus Modes into my phone setup has been a revelation for managing both my work responsibilities and personal life. Before implementing these modes, I felt chained to constant after-hours notifications, making it difficult to truly unwind and stay present with my family. Automating transitions between "on the clock," "chill," "zen den," and "morning" modes based on time of day eliminates the mental clutter of deciding when to mute notifications. One of the key benefits I've found is the nearly complete reduction of non-essential distractions during my 'zen den' nighttime focus. By allowing calls only from select contacts and blocking all other alerts, I create a peaceful environment conducive to restful evenings and better sleep quality. This approach has helped me establish clear boundaries between work and personal time, enhancing my overall well-being. The "on the clock" focus mode, which activates at 8 a.m., streamlines my workflow by keeping only work-related apps accessible and their notifications active. This focused environment helps me prioritize essential tasks without getting sidetracked by social media or unrelated alerts. Similarly, the "chill" mode post-5 p.m. enables me to engage fully with family and tackle daily chores without the intrusion of work notifications. I'm also progressively optimizing my "morning" focus mode to become a more efficient early riser by tailoring home screen widgets and notifications to support a productive start. Widgets such as calendar events, health reminders, and motivational quotes keep me on track first thing in the morning. For anyone looking to create a phone setup that fosters productivity while reducing stress, I recommend exploring these key elements: customized Focus Modes timed around your daily rhythm, minimal but meaningful home screen widgets, and strict notification controls. Together, these tools can transform your smartphone from a source of overwhelm into a purposeful productivity partner. I'd love to hear how others use their phone setups to maintain balance and focus—sharing ideas can inspire new ways to enhance our digital habits for a calmer, more intentional life.
