I’m still a furry

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share a little bit about something that's a big part of my life: being a furry. When people ask, "what is a furry person?" it’s not always easy to explain quickly, because it's so much more than what you might see online or in the media. For me, it's about being part of a creative and welcoming community. Being a furry essentially means you have an interest in anthropomorphic animal characters—animals with human characteristics. This can manifest in many ways, from enjoying art and stories with these characters to creating your own 'fursona,' which is an animal alter-ego or representation of yourself. It's a hobby, a fandom, and a way for many of us to express our creativity and connect with like-minded individuals. Now, let's talk about "furry culture." It's incredibly diverse and vibrant! You'll find artists who draw amazing characters, writers who create intricate worlds, crafters who make incredible costumes (yes, fursuits!), and musicians who compose original pieces. The community often gathers at conventions—big events where people can meet, share their creations, attend panels, and just have fun. It’s a place where you can truly be yourself, and that’s something I cherish deeply. One common misconception I often hear is, "You don't have a fursuit!" And it’s true, I don't currently own one! But that actually highlights a really important point: you absolutely don't need a fursuit to be a furry. Fursuits are a fantastic part of the fandom for many, allowing people to bring their fursonas to life, but they're a significant investment and simply one aspect of the culture. Many furries express their interest through art, writing, or just being involved in online communities. It's all about personal preference and how you choose to engage. And what about the "real life furries people" you hear about? We're just everyday folks from all walks of life! Doctors, students, teachers, artists, engineers—you name it. The community is incredibly inclusive. You might also hear about the "furry gay" aspect, and it's true that the fandom has a significant LGBTQ+ representation. From my experience, the furry community is very open and accepting, providing a safe space for people to explore their identities and find acceptance, which is a huge comfort for many. It's a place where people often find a sense of belonging that they might not experience elsewhere. Overall, the furry fandom is a wonderful, creative, and accepting space. It’s a place where I've made incredible friends and pushed my own creative boundaries. It's a community built on shared interests, mutual respect, and a lot of fun.
