My Favorite Leotard Brands

I have tried a lot of #dancewear brands and I keep coming back to these two for leotards.

I love AK Dancewear because they have great quality leotards in beautiful colors and patterns. I love how it is so easy to match your leotard with a skirt or accessory.

So Danca Só Dança leotards are another favorite because they are affordable, great quality, and have so many options to choose from.

And of course, underneath every layer is my Bleuet

... Read moreFinding that perfect leotard is a journey every dancer knows well! While my article highlights my top two brands, AK Dancewear and So Danca, there's so much more to consider when building your dance wardrobe. I've learned a few things over the years that might help you too, especially when you're looking for that 'just right' fit or a specific style. Firstly, let's talk about consistent sizing and fit. This is a big one! Different brands can have slightly different sizing charts, and what's a medium in one might be a small or large in another. I always recommend checking the brand's specific size guide and, if possible, reading reviews from other dancers about how true to size a particular style runs. Sometimes, even within the same brand, certain collections might fit differently. For example, some leotards are designed for a compression fit, while others offer more room for movement. Don't be afraid to try on a few sizes if you're shopping in person, or order multiple sizes online if returns are easy. A well-fitting leotard isn't just about looking good; it's crucial for comfort and freedom of movement during class or performance. Another aspect often overlooked is color consistency and dye quality, especially for staple colors like black. Have you ever bought a 'black' leotard only to find it's a slightly faded grey-black after a few washes, or that the dye rubs off? It's frustrating! When searching for reliable brands, I look for ones known for their high-quality fabrics and dyeing processes. This ensures that your black leotard stays a deep, true black, and that vibrant colors like the beautiful shades available from AK Dancewear or So Danca maintain their richness over time. This is particularly important if you're trying to match new items with existing dancewear, or if your studio has strict uniform requirements. Beyond just brands, where do you even buy leotards? While local dance stores offer the benefit of trying things on, online retailers provide a vast selection. You might discover niche brands or find better deals. And don't forget second-hand options! Websites like eBay or local dancewear resale groups can be treasure troves for gently used, high-quality leotards, sometimes even from brands like Jule Dance Wear or Speerise that you might not find everywhere. It's a great way to be sustainable and save some money, especially for growing dancers. Just make sure to check the condition carefully. Finally, let's talk styling. A leotard is your canvas! I love how versatile they are. For an elegant studio look, pairing a classic black leotard with pink tights is timeless, as seen on many dancers. But don't hesitate to experiment! You can layer a floral skirt over your leotard, or add some black leg warmers for a cozy studio vibe. Even a simple dark purple leotard can be transformed with the right accessories. Think about adding a wrap skirt, a stylish warm-up top, or even different colored tights to express your personality. The key is to feel confident and comfortable in what you wear, whether you're in a black tutu for a performance or just a simple leotard for class. It's all about finding what makes you feel your best on the dance floor!
