FLORENCE, ITALY 📍

... Read moreExploring Florence, Italy, doesn't have to break the bank! I recently made my dream trip a reality, and I'm excited to share my go-to strategies for experiencing this stunning city on a budget. It's all about smart planning and embracing local living. My first and biggest tip for saving on travel is to leverage a travel rewards credit card. This was a game-changer for me! I used my points to cover a significant portion of my flights, and having a card with no foreign transaction fees saved me a lot on daily purchases. I also follow travel blogs and social media accounts that share incredibly cheap flight deals – booking early is crucial, as last-minute flights are often pricier. Keeping an eye on these alerts and being flexible with dates can save you hundreds. When it comes to accommodation, I highly recommend booking an Airbnb, especially one slightly away from the main tourist hubs. This isn't just about saving money (which you definitely will!), but also about getting a more authentic experience. My host was a fantastic resource for local recommendations, and having a kitchen meant I could cook some of my meals. Being able to do laundry was also a huge plus, allowing me to pack lighter and avoid excess baggage fees. Staying in a residential area, like the one near Firenz po di Marte, gave me a glimpse into daily Florentine life that you wouldn't get in a hotel. Eating well on a budget in Florence is absolutely doable, and it’s one of the best parts of the trip! The food in the highly touristic areas was often expensive and, honestly, not always worth it. I discovered that by venturing just a few blocks from my Airbnb, I found local grocery stores and restaurants with incredibly delicious and affordable meals. My absolute favorite meal was at a small trattoria that was a short walk from my place – the kind of place where locals eat. Don't be afraid to try places that aren't plastered with English menus; those are often the hidden gems! Getting around Florence is surprisingly easy and cheap. I relied heavily on public transportation – trains, buses, and metros – and, of course, lots of walking! Apple Maps was my savior for navigating the bus routes and knowing exactly which ones to take. It's a fantastic way to see the city, get some exercise, and save on taxi fares. Plus, walking through the charming streets is an experience in itself. Finally, don't overpack! Trust me on this one. You'll want to buy souvenirs and maybe even some fashion items. I found some fantastic deals at outlet malls outside the city that were significantly cheaper than prices back home. Remember to ask about tax refunds on eligible purchases – it's a nice little bonus! Traveling light also makes navigating public transport and cobblestone streets much easier. By following these tips, I had an unforgettable time in Florence without draining my savings, and you can too!
