What milestones has your 8 month old hit?👇
#letschat Lily is growing so fast and I am so curious what are your 8 month olds doing at this age? She is all over the place! She’s standing up and holding her own bottle! I do not know where the time has gone.
It truly feels like just yesterday my little one was a tiny newborn, and now they're exploring the world on two feet (or trying to!). Watching them hit new milestones is such a whirlwind of emotions, isn't it? Like many of you, I remember that exhilarating moment when my baby started pulling themselves up to stand around 8 months. It’s a huge step towards walking and a sign of their growing strength and curiosity. Typically, babies start getting the hang of pulling to stand sometime between 8 and 10 months. You might notice them using furniture, crib rails, or even a sturdy playpen to hoist themselves up. My little explorer loved using the side of their playpen, gripping onto the rail and slowly, wobbly, pushing their legs to stand. It takes a lot of core strength, leg power, and balance! To encourage this, I made sure they had plenty of supervised floor time. Placing favorite toys just out of reach on a low surface, or even on the top edge of their playpen, motivated them to try and reach up. Just be sure to always have a soft landing spot and keep an eye out for tumbles! Before pulling to stand, babies typically master sitting independently. Most 8-month-olds can sit unsupported for several minutes, if not longer. This milestone is crucial as it frees up their hands to explore toys and interact with their surroundings more effectively. If your baby is still a bit wobbly, continue to practice sitting with them, providing support as needed, and gradually reducing it. Beyond these big motor skills, 8 months is a time of rapid development across the board. You might notice your baby starting to crawl in earnest, learning to wave bye-bye, or even responding to their name consistently. They’re becoming little communicators, often babbling with consonant-vowel combinations like "mama" or "dada" and understanding simple instructions. Fine motor skills are also advancing; many babies at this age are mastering the pincer grasp, picking up small objects like O-shaped cereal pieces with their thumb and forefinger. Safety becomes even more paramount when your baby starts pulling to stand. Suddenly, everything that was once out of reach is now a potential hazard! I had to re-evaluate our baby-proofing, securing furniture, covering outlets, and making sure anything dangerous was completely out of their new standing reach. It’s a constant process, but so worth it for their safety. Sharing these moments and milestones with other parents is so reassuring. Every baby develops at their own pace, and while there are common timelines, it's those individual leaps and bounds that make parenting so unique and exciting. Keep celebrating those small victories, whether it's a first pull to stand, a confident sit, or a new babble!
