Big no-no! We were saying, "We shouldn't have turned off the lights..." for a reason! When it comes to lights in Phasmophobia, most players instinctively want to keep them on, and for good reason. Keeping the lights on, especially in the ghost room or the general area you're investigating, helps maintain your sanity. Sanity is your lifeline in this game; the lower it drops, the more active and aggressive the ghost becomes, increasing your chances of a hunt. Plus, who wants to stumble around in pitch black when a ghost is lurking? Visual cues are crucial for identifying ghost events and spotting the ghost itself, which is nearly impossible in the dark. We were all saying, "Change! Yeah, keep the spirit!" hoping to ward off the darkness, but our curiosity got the better of us. However, there are moments when turning off lights might seem strategic, or even necessary, but it's often a double-edged sword. For instance, some ghosts, like the Shade, are less likely to hunt if players are together in the dark. But relying on this can be risky! Most of the time, turning off lights just makes your investigation harder, drains sanity faster, and seriously ups the fear factor. My personal experience was a whirlwind of "OH NAH" and "MY GOSH WHAT IS THAT" as soon as the darkness hit. We were genuinely "scared asf" and kept asking, "DOI LOOK BEHIND ME CHAT?" because every shadow felt like a threat. It really "creeped" me out. So, what's the best approach? Generally, keep the lights on! Prioritize finding the breaker and flipping it on if the power is out. Utilize flashlights and head-mounted cameras (if you're comfortable with the limited field of view) to keep areas lit. Always carry a strong flashlight. If you hear the ghost interacting with lights, like flipping them off or shattering bulbs, it’s a clear sign of activity. Remember, certain ghost types, like the Poltergeist, love to drain power, so be mindful of your surroundings. While it might be tempting to turn off the lights for a quick scare or to see if the ghost reacts, for a successful and less terrifying investigation, brighter is usually better. Trust me, learning this lesson made me feel like I needed to "change my life!" after that terrifying encounter. Always try to keep your sanity high and your surroundings illuminated!
