Hey everyone! If you're anything like me, you love a good protective style that's both stylish and doesn't break the bank or take an entire day to install. That's exactly why I fell in love with quick weaves, especially for my natural hair. I've seen so many questions about what a quick weave actually is and how to get that salon-quality look at home, so I wanted to share my personal journey and tips with you. First off, what is a quick weave install? It's essentially a temporary hair extension method where hair wefts are glued onto a protective cap placed over your braided or molded natural hair. It's 'quick' because it's much faster than sew-ins or traditional weaves, making it perfect for a fast style change or when you're on a budget. It's a fantastic option for giving your natural hair a break from daily styling, and with the right care, it can look incredibly seamless and natural. Before diving into the quick weave installation process, let's talk about what you need for a quick weave. Gathering all your quick weave materials beforehand makes the whole process smoother. Here’s my go-to list: Hair wefts (choose your desired texture and length) Dome styling cap (or two for extra protection) Liquid cap/protective sealant (like liquid bandage or a protectant spray) Weaving glue (make sure it's good quality!) Scissors Hair clips Rat-tail comb Edge control and a brush for your leave-out (if you choose to have one) Molding gel or styling foam (if you're molding your hair) Hair dryer Now, for the exciting part: how to install a quick weave! This is where you really see your transformation. For me, the first step is always to prepare my natural hair. I usually do a few cornrows or simply mold my hair down flat using a strong holding gel, making sure it's completely dry. This creates a smooth base. Then, I put on the dome cap. This is crucial for protecting your natural hair from the glue. Sometimes I'll even use a liquid cap or a protectant spray on the cap for an extra barrier. Next, you start applying the hair wefts. I usually begin at the nape of my neck, cutting the wefts to fit the circumference of my head and carefully applying a thin line of weaving glue. Then, I press the weft firmly onto the cap. I continue this, working my way up. When it comes to the top, depending on if you want a leave-out or a full closure, the technique changes. For a full quick weave, I usually create a circular pattern towards the crown. If you're doing a half up half down quick weave with no leave out, you'd adjust your track placement accordingly. The key is to be neat and consistent. This entire process, for me, usually takes about 2-3 hours. So, if you're wondering how long does a quick weave take to install, it's definitely quicker than other methods! Once all your tracks are laid, give the glue time to dry completely. You can use a cool setting on your hairdryer to speed this up. Then, it's time to style! Trim, curl, straighten – whatever look you're going for. Finally, how to maintain a quick weave? Longevity is key! To make your quick weave last (typically 2-4 weeks), avoid getting the glue excessively wet. If you need to wash your scalp, use a damp cloth with diluted shampoo, focusing on your exposed scalp. Always tie it down with a silk scarf or bonnet at night to prevent tangling and preserve your style. When it's time to take it out, use a good quick weave remover to dissolve the glue gently, taking care not to pull on your natural hair. I hope this helps anyone looking to try a quick weave! It's a fantastic, versatile style that you can totally master at home with a little practice.
