my FAV sheng jian baos 🤤
📍 Shanghai Fried Xiao Long Bao
hands down the best 生煎包s I’ve had !! the thin crisp base + the flavourful juicy meat filling,, 10/10 🤩 was so good that we went back and bought 2 more servings HAHAHA I still think about them 🤤
side note: the 炸酱面 looks unassuming but it was pretty good! was pleasantly surprised by it
If you're exploring Shanghai Sheng Jian Bao, it's worth noting the delightful contrast between these and the softer Xiao Long Bao. Sheng Jian Bao are pan-fried, giving them a crispy bottom, while Xiao Long Bao are steamed, resulting in a delicate, soft skin. This difference offers a unique dining experience depending on what texture you prefer. At Crystal Mall Food Court and similar spots, the Sheng Jian Bao here stand out for their perfect balance of thin, crunchy dough and flavorful, juicy pork filling. Customers often go back for multiple servings because they're so addictive! Another dish that complements Sheng Jian Bao well is the fried noodles, known as 炸酱面. Though it might look plain at first glance, the rich, savory sauce with minced meat pairs wonderfully, elevating the whole meal. When visiting Shanghai or searching for these dishes locally, keep an eye on menus featuring both Sheng Jian Bao and Xiao Long Bao to try their distinct textures and flavors. Enjoying both can provide a fuller appreciation of Shanghai’s renowned street food culture.
