Cinder a Cinderella retelling

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5 Stars

A sci-fi Cinderella retelling with a cyborg mechanic heroine? Say less! 🤖✨

I absolutely loved Cinder! This isn't your average fairytale retelling. Cinder is a gifted mechanic who happens to be a second-class cyborg citizen, dealing with a horribly cruel stepmother. When she crosses paths with Prince Kai after he brings his android to her shop for repairs, their connection is immediate—and their evolving relationship is so well done.

But the stakes are incredibly high. There is a devastating plague sweeping through the population, and when Cinder’s sister tragically falls ill, her stepmother sacrifices her to be a medical test subject. Little does Cinder know, this horrific betrayal is about to uncover secrets that will completely change her life.

It's fast-paced, unique, and has the perfect blend of romance, sci-fi world-building, and classic fairytale nods. That ending left me reeling, and I honestly cannot wait to dive into book 2, Scarlet!

... Read moreReading "Cinder" was an amazing experience that brought a fresh twist to the classic Cinderella story. What I found particularly engaging was how the author integrated sci-fi elements seamlessly into the fairy tale structure. Having a heroine who is not only a gifted mechanic but also a second-class cyborg citizen added depth to the narrative, highlighting themes of identity and societal prejudice. The relationship development between Cinder and Prince Kai is portrayed with a realism that makes the romance believable and heartfelt. Their connection goes beyond typical fairy tale tropes, enriched by shared challenges and mutual respect. One aspect that stood out was the urgent backdrop of the plague sweeping through the population. This element not only raises the stakes but also introduces ethical dilemmas and political intrigue. It makes Cinder's journey more than a personal quest; it becomes a fight for survival and justice. If you're a fan of stories that mix romance with action and thought-provoking themes, this book offers all of it along with intricate sci-fi world-building. The portrayal of androids and cyborgs adds a complex layer to the societal dynamics within the story. For readers who enjoy detailed characters and fast-paced plots, "Cinder" is a must-read. It's also exciting that this is just the beginning of the Lunar Chronicles series, promising more adventures and character growth. Overall, this retelling keeps the magical essence of Cinderella alive while elevating it with futuristic challenges and profound character arcs. If you loved the blend of genres and the heroine’s resilience, diving into the next book, "Scarlet," is definitely something to look forward to.
