... Read moreIn the realm of Booktok, many users are influenced by trends and popular recommendations, often embracing certain genres like romance and smut. However, this can lead to purchasing books that might not align with personal tastes. For instance, titles by Colleen Hoover, Sarah J. Maas, and others frequently dominate the charts, drawing attention with their captivating covers and trending hashtags. While these books may have a massive following, it’s essential to reflect on personal reading preferences. Some readers may find themselves feeling compelled to buy popular titles without genuinely connecting to the themes or styles. This can result in a shelf full of unread books, sparking discussions within the Booktok community about the media’s influence on individual book selections. Books can be a reflection of personal identity, and it’s okay to step back and reassess what resonates with you as a reader. Exploring diverse genres, authors, and themes that move beyond the trending picks may lead to a more fulfilling reading experience. Acknowledging that not all recommended titles will fit one's reading style is key to enjoying literature. Engage with content that speaks to you, and don’t be afraid to step outside the popular trends on platforms like Booktok.
