Mastitis: My experience.

Unexpected.

🤍 The pain:

I woke up yesterday morning with a little soreness on my right breast and I assumed it was because my son had been cluster feeding. After taking a hot shower I started to feel chills all over and I could not stop shaking. I thought maybe I had caught a cold or something but I was not congested or coughing. As I am getting dressed I realized how red my chest was and when I pressed onto my skin where it was red, it felt like I was bruised. I realized there was 3 little bumps that hurt so badly only when I touched it.

🤍 How I Felt:

I felt weak, I was exhausted and it was dreading my body so much that I could not stay awake. I finally had my partner massage it out after a warm compress and he was able to massage the milk out. THE RELIEF I felt after a painful day was amazing.

I have been slacking on pumping and I am starting to make a little more supply. With being busy with the holidays and hosting this year, I have not given myself the breaks that I need for pumping and have been trying to catch up on me time…

Today after a horrible 15 minutes of what felt like a hard massage, and trying to get the milk out, I FINALLY feel so much better. Chills have gone away and so have the muscle aches. Hoping to never have to feel it again🙃

... Read moreMastitis is a painful breast condition common in breastfeeding mothers, characterized by inflammation, redness, and swelling. Symptoms often include fever, chills, and muscle aches, making it crucial to seek relief promptly. Key strategies for managing mastitis involve frequent breastfeeding or pumping, which ensures milk flow and reduces pressure in the breast. Using hot compresses before nursing can help ease pain and facilitate milk drainage. Gentle massaging of the affected area promotes circulation and aids in expression. If symptoms persist or worsen, contacting a healthcare provider is essential, as antibiotics may be needed to resolve the infection. Understanding these aspects can help mothers navigate their breastfeeding journeys more comfortably and confidently.
