not for the weak for sure 🥲🤦🏻♀️ 🐶#husky #puppy #huskypuppy #germanshepherd #shepsky #shepskymix #huskylife #wildhusky #wilddog #dog #baddog #crazydog #doggo #dogs #fail #dogdigging
Okay, so you've seen my post and my little Shepsky's latest digging masterpiece, turning 'this was grass & dirt before!' into a crater. If you're seeing those cute husky puppy videos and thinking, 'I want one!' — warning, do NOT get a husky... unless you are truly prepared! I'm sharing my real-life husky warning because, honestly, these majestic goofballs are not for the weak, and I wish I'd known more before diving in. The first thing you hear is about their energy, but you don't really get it until you live with it. My Shepsky, bless his heart, has endless zoomies. If he doesn't get enough exercise, that energy turns into destructive behaviors – like, say, redecorating the garden with his paws. We're talking long walks, runs, and plenty of playtime every single day. It's a commitment, not a suggestion! Then there's the infamous digging. Oh, the digging! It's not just a naughty habit; it's instinctual for them. They dig to hunt, to find a cool spot, or just because they're bored. After seeing my yard transform from green to brown overnight, I realized I needed a strategy. We're now working on a designated 'dig pit' in a corner of the yard, filled with sand, to redirect his natural urge. It's a work in progress, but hopefully, it saves the rest of my landscaping! And yes, after these digging adventures, he definitely 'has to shower' – sometimes multiple times a week! Training a husky or Shepsky is another adventure. They are incredibly smart, which means they learn quickly... both good habits and bad ones! They also have a stubborn streak a mile wide. Consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement are key. You can't just tell a husky what to do; you have to convince them it's their idea. I've spent hours on recall training alone, and it's still not 100% reliable when there's a squirrel involved! And let's not forget the 'husky talk.' They don't bark much, but they howl, whine, grumble, and make the most expressive noises. It's endearing, hilarious, and sometimes, very loud! Expect conversations with your dog, or at least, your dog having conversations at you. Finally, be prepared for the 'husky glitter.' Their double coat is beautiful, but it sheds. A lot. Especially when they 'blow their coat' twice a year. Regular grooming is non-negotiable unless you want your entire house to be covered in dog hair. I've invested in a good vacuum and a deshedding tool, and I still find fur everywhere! Despite all these challenges, and believe me, there are days I just shake my head and wonder what I got myself into, my Shepsky is the most loving, loyal, and goofy companion. He makes me laugh every single day. So, while my post is a genuine husky warning, it's also a testament to the fact that with proper understanding, commitment, and a good sense of humor, these 'wild dogs' can bring so much joy. Just make sure you're truly ready for the adventure!
