Searching for my next read 🔍

2025/3/22 Edited to

... Read moreI totally get the feeling of wandering into Walmart just to ‘browse’ and leaving with an armful of exciting new reads! It’s become one of my favorite spots to discover what’s trending in the book world, and honestly, their selection of popular genres often surprises me. If you’re like me, always on the hunt for your next page-turner, you’ll find that Walmart often stocks a fantastic array of titles across several popular categories. From what I've seen and what's often flying off the shelves, Fantasy is a huge hit. Think dragons, magic, and epic quests! Titles like 'Iron Flame' and 'Fourth Wing' are prime examples of the epic fantasy and romantasy (romance + fantasy) genres that have taken the book community by storm. You might even stumble upon a 'Walmart Exclusive Edition' of popular fantasy series, which is always a bonus for collectors! Other fantasy-leaning titles I’ve spotted, like 'A Song to Drown Rivers' and 'Bloodguard', also show how diverse this genre can be, from high fantasy to urban fantasy. For those who love a good supernatural tale, books like 'Her Soul for Revenge' and 'Soul of a Witch' often fall into this broader category, blending fantasy with darker elements. Then there’s the ever-popular Romance genre. Walmart always seems to have a great selection, from heartwarming contemporary love stories to spicier reads. I’ve definitely seen titles like 'Icebreaker' and 'Daydream' making waves in the contemporary romance scene. These books are usually feel-good, easy reads perfect for unwinding. It's truly amazing how quickly they update their stock to reflect popular authors and trending tropes. Beyond these, you’ll usually find a strong presence of Young Adult (YA) novels, which often cross over into fantasy and romance. Many of the books I mentioned, like 'Flamefall', resonate strongly with YA readers who enjoy adventurous plots and developing characters. Walmart is also a reliable place for Thrillers and Mysteries, especially new releases from well-known authors. While I didn't grab one this trip, I always keep an eye out for those gripping suspense novels that promise a late-night reading session. What I love about browsing at Walmart is that you can often find these popular books at really competitive prices, sometimes even before other retailers. My pro-tip? Always check the end-cap displays and the special ‘new release’ sections. That’s where you’ll usually find the most hyped-up titles across these popular genres. It's a treasure hunt every time! So, fellow bookworms, what popular genres do you usually gravitate towards when you're browsing the book aisles at Walmart? And have you snagged any 'Walmart Exclusive Editions' lately that you absolutely loved? I'm always looking for more recommendations to add to my ever-growing TBR pile!

Job searching? These are my red flags… 🚩
Over the years I’ve seen a lot of things in job postings I don’t love, many of which have now become red flags for me. And usually I won’t even apply if I see any of these! For me, I want to apply to (& work for) companies that value me and don’t want to get the most bang for their buck.
