How I’m Decluttering Our New Home in 2026

Here’s my new year declutter plan for our home:

Office/Gym:

- When we moved into our home, we now share a desk and it just currently holds everything “office” related. This needs organization, decluttering, etc.

Junk Closets:

- We have 2 spare bedrooms (the office/gym, and the guest bedroom) both closets are full of unorganized junk that never found a home or was simply never unpacked when we moved here. We lack a lot of storage, shelving, etc.

- we also have 2 other small utility closets in our home that have stuff just thrown in there.

- this will be a job!

Bedroom closet:

- we share a walk in closet in our master suite. We have a disorganized system, and i have stuff that still needs to be hung up because I need more hangers! I plan on purging this closet, organizing the shelves better, and then organizing clothes by type (pants, shirts, seasonal)

Garage:

- this will be great for early spring, we got kayak racks and bike mounting hooks for christmas that we will use to free up space in the garage

- we can then organize tools, declutter junk, and hopefully by then have enough money saved to get an outshed for our lawnmower and weedeaters

- the goal is to be able to fit both cars in here

I plan to tackle one project area each month starting this year. I would do more but my plate is full
