Second set of crochet willow squares ... I decided to throw in some.earthy tones along with all the cream color .... it actually looks good together ... I need about 80 squares .... 10 squares long 8 squares wide .... so next set will just be 13 cream colored willow squares ... so then the total will be 40 squares ... so that'll be about half away point ... Its a happy chaotic process I love it 😂 Crochet a set ... then block a set repeat until all is done then I'll be sewing not crocheting but sewing with a invisible seam! I hope it'll look as awesome as my brain sees it 🤣
When starting a large crochet project like a willow square blanket, I’ve found that breaking the process down into manageable steps really helps keep things enjoyable rather than overwhelming. For me, working in sets of squares and alternating colors actually sparks more creativity, especially mixing earthy tones with creams to create contrast and warmth. Blocking each set of squares as you finish them is one of those essential steps that you don’t want to skip. It really helps even out stitches and gives each square a polished, uniform look that will make sewing them together much easier and neater. I usually pin each square on a foam blocking board and lightly mist with water before letting them dry flat. It’s satisfying to see the shapes become consistent. Sewing the squares together using an invisible seam technique is a little tricky at first but totally worth it in the end. This method helps create a smooth, seamless look that really showcases the pattern without bulky joins. I recommend using a sharp needle and thread that matches closely to your yarn color for the best results. Patience is key! One thing I love about this kind of crochet project is the mix of planned structure and happy chaos. While the dimensions and number of squares are set, the choice of which colors go where and the feel of the process itself is flexible and uplifting. It’s a relaxing activity that also lets you express your artistic vision through texture and color. For those planning a similar blanket, I suggest keeping track of your square count and colors as you go, either with a simple notebook or an app. It helps keep the rhythm going and ensures your final piece matches your mental image. Happy crocheting!
