Tips for incoming teachers 👩🏻🏫
I am going in year two of teaching. I swear that I was nervous about teaching for the first two months. I felt like I was prepared but at the same time I felt like I wasn’t. If I by the end of the year I felt the difference. If I can give any new teacher advice it would be this…
If you feel your struggling talk to your team. Especially if they have been teaching for a while. If you’re feeling stress or think you are not doing something right with how your class is flowing ask someone to come watch a lesson. Your first observation is going to be nerve racking but it gets better. Please please please set your expectations with your students and follow through with consequences they will take advantage of you if you don’t. I know we all want our students to like us be where not their to be best friends with them you are the adult. Set boundaries. And have your lesson prepared and somewhat rehearsed on how you want the lesson to flow.

As new teachers prepare for their roles, setting clear expectations with students is crucial. Establish classroom rules that respect both peers and supplies. Students should arrive prepared and ready to learn, as attendance significantly impacts their grades. Any disruptive behavior can lead to a chaotic classroom environment. Engage with teaching teams for support and observe experienced colleagues' lessons to enhance your skills. By having well-structured lessons and being ready to manage classroom dynamics, you increase your effectiveness as an educator. Additionally, understanding the importance of routines in the classroom can aid in creating a conducive learning environment. Encourage students to come to class prepared, with necessary supplies organized. This fosters responsibility and minimizes disruptions. It is also important to communicate the significance of participation and attentive listening to students, linking it directly to their academic success.
