Hidden Shores and History on Egmont Key Island
If you’re anything like me, you crave those Florida adventures that feel a little off the grid—something more than your typical beach day. Egmont Key was exactly that. Just a short ferry ride away (about $45), but it feels like stepping into a different world where time slows down and nature really takes the lead.
What I loved most was how untouched it felt. There’s no big commercial scene, no beach bars or crowds—just wild dunes, clear waters, and some of the most peaceful shoreline I’ve seen in Florida. I wandered the old military ruins (super cool and a little eerie in the best way), and the trails were quiet, shaded, and filled with wildlife. You’re walking through a living piece of history while also soaking up that salty breeze—how often does that happen?
Bring water, sunscreen, and snacks because it’s all about unplugging here. And don’t skip the lighthouse—it’s a little weathered, but it’s got stories written all over it. Egmont Key isn’t just a beach day, it’s a full escape. I left sandy, sun-soaked, and already planning my next trip back.
