Mochi Bonds: Friendship Exists Despite Differences

I love this short story and it carries onto "Two's Family".

Here's my take on the short story:

In Sayaka Murata's "A Summer Night's Kiss" from the "Life Ceremonies" collection, the narrative beautifully illustrates how two individuals can embrace distinct lifestyles yet cultivate a meaningful friendship. The story emphasizes humanity's capacity to overlook differences, engage in lighthearted banter, and transcend societal divides. Two women, each leading contrasting lives—one promiscuous and the other a virgin—mutually respect their differences, fostering a lasting friendship well into their 70s. The shared experience of savoring a mochi on a summer night becomes a metaphorical moment, uniting them in a unique bond that transcends societal norms and expectations.

The title is because the promiscuous friend says that eating mochi is like kissing. The virgin takes a bite as the promiscuous friend lightly jokes with her. They continue walking along the quiet streets.
