I’ve Never Been Comfortable in My Own Skin
I spent most of my life being bullied for being a bit bigger, and I’ve certainly never been a size 4. I’ve struggled with food, tried crash diets and fad workouts in an attempt to be just like society wanted me to be.
Recently, I saw myself in the mirror. Really saw myself. I was the biggest bridesmaid in a close friend’s wedding, but you know…I didn’t shy away from the pretty dress. I didn’t stay off of the dance floor. I didn’t hide from the photographer.
Included in this post are some of my favorite candids from the wedding, as well as a collage of weird faces I made on the dance floor. I had the time of my life, and while I’m still working on loving myself as I deserve, I’m having a whole lot more fun when I’m not judging myself on every little roll or wrinkle.
Even going to the gym is more fun, when I set my sights on doing it to get stronger and keep up with my preschoolers.
Life is messy…and no one is perfect. My collage of weird faces I made on the dance floor proves that.
Get out there and dance, be as authentic as possible. You deserve the world.

In a world that often imposes unrealistic beauty standards, it's essential to acknowledge the significance of self-acceptance. Many individuals, like myself, have faced challenges in embracing their true selves, often receiving negative comments about their appearance. Every person’s journey to self-love is unique, shaped by personal experiences and societal pressures. Acknowledge that self-worth is not determined by your size or the opinions of others. Engaging in activities that bring joy, such as dancing or spending quality time with loved ones, can profoundly impact your self-esteem. As we continue to deconstruct harmful narratives around body image, it becomes increasingly important to build supportive communities that celebrate diversity and individuality. Utilizing social media platforms to share authenticity and body positivity can help foster a culture of self-love and acceptance. Guided by this principle, take a moment to appreciate your body for the incredible things it allows you to do rather than focusing solely on its appearance. Set realistic fitness and health goals that prioritize your well-being rather than conforming to societal standards. Ultimately, remember that confidence comes from within. Celebrate your achievements, big or small, and surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you. Self-love is a journey, and every step you take towards embracing your authentic self is a victory worth celebrating.
