Sometimes life is monotonous; days go by following exact routines. There are robotic movements and boring errands that never change. You follow the same mathematical formulas for the day and never really go outside of them. Rules lace your life. If you bend the rules even a little, the outcomes may not be the same. Suddenly, you have to think on your feet, manoeuvre directions, and face unfamiliar outcomes.Through all of these days, day in and day out, I wish for something different. Monotony is bleak. Change is refreshing. I want to dream. I want something different—something to provoke my mind into growing maps of new, interesting activities, new feelings, and new dreams. Despite my life being boring and redundant, I still have dreams. I have dreams of change and a new life.
I want to look forward to a new sunrise and a new morning dew filled with the promise of the day. I want an afternoon of sweat from the labour that I did, and a homecoming filled with the joy of a full day's job to earn my living. I want my simple bed waiting for me to rest my tired body, and at the end, a beautiful dream to cradle me through the night.
While life can be stressful and boring, we can color that palette of life with dreams. Then, you will get a beautiful watercolor spread of an orange sunset or the green hues of the jungle. You can even get that magnetic blue hue of the full moon in the sky.
Living a life dictated by routines can often make us feel trapped in a cycle of monotony, where each day blends indistinguishably into the next. From personal experience, I’ve found that the key to breaking free from this cycle lies in embracing change and fostering dreams. These aspirations are the sparks that ignite our creativity and push us to explore new paths, feelings, and opportunities. When I began to consciously seek out small changes in my daily routine—whether it was taking a different route to work, trying a new hobby, or simply allowing myself to daydream—I noticed a remarkable shift in my outlook. Instead of viewing the day as a series of repetitive tasks, I started to see it as a canvas ready to be painted with new experiences and possibilities. This mental shift brought a sense of excitement even to the most mundane moments. Additionally, dreams serve as a refuge and a source of motivation. Imagining a future filled with possibilities encouraged me to be more proactive about setting goals and pursuing activities that nourished my mind and body. Whether it was embracing the peacefulness of a sunrise or the satisfaction from a day of honest work, these moments became more meaningful because they were tied to a larger vision of change and growth. I also learned that allowing myself to feel and express different emotions—joy, hope, longing—helped me reconnect with what it truly means to live fully. The metaphor of coloring life with the hues of a sunset, the greenery of a jungle, or the glow of the full moon resonated deeply. It reminded me that even in the midst of stress or boredom, there is beauty and inspiration waiting to be discovered. Ultimately, making room for dreams and change has transformed what once felt like a monotonous existence into a journey filled with potential. I encourage anyone feeling stuck in routine to start small—embrace new experiences, nurture your dreams, and watch as your life begins to bloom with vibrant colors and hopeful possibilities.
