Turn my house into a gingerbread house! ♥️💚
Turning a part of our house into the interior of a gingerbread house! House theme is North Pole! The gingerbread man lives in the North Pole right? #lemon8diarychallenge #christmas #christmashomedecor
Oh my goodness, transforming my home into a GINGERBREAD HOUSE for Christmas has been one of my favorite holiday projects ever! If you're like me and have always dreamt of that whimsical, candy-coated aesthetic, let me share some tips on how to make your house look like a gingerbread house, both inside and out. First, think about your color palette. Gingerbread houses scream warm browns, crisp whites (for the icing!), and vibrant pops of red, green, and pastel candy colors. I started by focusing on my main living area, deciding to embrace the North Pole theme mentioned in my original post. This meant adding hints of snowy whites, icy blues, and plenty of cozy, warm lighting. For that signature 'icing' look, you don't need actual sugar! I found that white craft paint or even a paint pen works wonders for drawing swirly patterns, scallops, and dots around window frames, doorways, and even on cardboard cutouts. You can also use white caulk (from a hardware store!) applied with a piping bag for a more dimensional and durable effect if you're feeling adventurous. I used this trick on some faux window panes I crafted, and it really made them pop! Imagine outlining your shelves or picture frames with these whimsical 'icing' details – instant gingerbread magic! Next, let's talk about the 'candy' decorations. This is where you can have so much fun without breaking the bank. Think oversized lollipops made from painted foam discs attached to dowels, giant gumdrops crafted from colorful painted styrofoam balls, or even strings of real, wrapped candies (if you trust yourself not to eat them all!). I personally love adding faux candy canes everywhere – they’re inexpensive and instantly recognizable. For a touch more sparkle, I used glitter glue on some cardboard cookies I cut out, making them look sugar-dusted and absolutely irresistible. To really sell the North Pole theme alongside your gingerbread transformation, incorporate elements like fluffy fake snow, miniature reindeer, or even cute polar bear figures. I draped white faux fur throws over sofas and chairs to mimic snowdrifts and added twinkling fairy lights everywhere to give that magical, ethereal glow. Warm white lights are key for creating a cozy, inviting atmosphere that contrasts beautifully with the crisp white 'icing' details. Don't forget the scent! A gingerbread house isn't complete without the aroma. I used gingerbread-scented candles, diffusers with cinnamon and clove oils, and even baked fresh gingerbread cookies regularly. It truly makes the experience so much more immersive. This project doesn't have to be expensive; I found many of my supplies at dollar stores and craft shops, focusing on DIY over store-bought. It's all about creativity and bringing that sweet, festive vision to life!
