This was a huge deal, as PepsiCo already owned Pizza Hut and Taco Bell, creating a fast-food empire under one roof. This period under PepsiCo was instrumental in expanding KFC's global reach and streamlining its operations alongside other major brands. However, PepsiCo's journey with its restaurants didn't end there. In 1997, PepsiCo decided to spin off its restaurant divisions into a new, independent company called Tricon Global Restaurants, Inc. This move allowed PepsiCo to focus more on its beverage and snack businesses, while Tricon could concentrate solely on growing its restaurant brands like KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell.
