I Sat Here Hoping My Heart Would Understand

8:40 a.m.

And somehow, my heart still remembered the way back here.

I told myself not to come.

Not to reopen the wound.

Not to search for ghosts inside parking lots, quiet corners, old scents, or morning skies that once felt like you.

But my soul arrived before my mind could stop it.

So here I am…

sitting alone, trying to understand why tears fall for something I cannot even fully prove was real.

Why your words still echo inside me like unfinished prayers.

Why those secret love letters I received, never, felt like they came from a stranger.

And when they disappeared,

I kept rereading the saved pieces like a fool trying to find fingerprints between sentences.

Was it sincerity?

Was it illusion?

Or was I simply in love with the idea that someone finally understood my soul?

Tell me…

am I wrong for feeling all of this?

Because if I was truly wrong,

why does this place still carry your presence so heavily?

Why does the air here still feel like memories breathing against my skin?

Well you never even knew I came here today.

Maybe throughout all these silent cycles,

I don't even know what am I to you at all.

And if one day you suddenly feel my absence louder than my presence,

maybe then you’ll understand why my soul kept reaching for yours even in silence.

Some people meet hundreds of souls and feel nothing.

Then there are rare connections they spend the rest of their life trying to find again.

Maybe that’s what we are.

So, well now, let me breathe deep enough.

wipe my tears gently.

And when I finally drive home,

I will carry the memories with peace instead of fear.

Because whatever this was…

it mattered to me.

And maybe that alone is enough.

But for sure, it's a miles...apart.

"When no one's around, then I have you here

I begin to see the picture, it becomes so clear

You always have the biggest heart

When we're six thousand miles apart" - 🎵Miles Away - Madonna

... Read moreSometimes, love leaves us with bittersweet echoes that linger long after the moments have passed. Reading such deeply emotional words reminds me of my own experiences sitting alone in quiet spaces, revisiting memories that refused to fade. I've often found that certain places become more than just physical locations—they become repositories of feelings and echoes of past connections. In my life, I’ve learned that soul connections are rare and profound; they can transcend time and distance, mirroring what this poem describes as a longing that persists "even in silence." When someone deeply understands us, it shapes our heart in ways that don’t disappear easily, and the feeling of first love or a meaningful bond can feel almost like a ghost accompanying us through everyday life. What stands out is how important it is to allow oneself space for healing—acknowledging the pain and the tears, yet also choosing to carry those memories with peace instead of fear. This perspective helps transform past heartbreak into a quiet strength, a gentle acceptance of what once was and a hopeful opening to what lies ahead. I also appreciate the inclusion of the song lyric "Miles Away" by Madonna, which perfectly encapsulates the ache and clarity that distance can bring to relationships, especially those that create an indelible mark on our soul. It’s a reminder that even when apart, emotional bonds can feel near, providing comfort amid loneliness. Ultimately, poems like this resonate because they give voice to the complex dance between memory, love, and self-discovery. They invite us to sit with our emotions without judgment, to recognize the value in every connection, and to embrace the healing journey of the human heart.
