Raising children in 2 languages (Thai is coming)
As we all know, today language seems to be something that every house is trying to promote for you, so that you have weapons with you in the future.
It is agreed that the parents will be responsible for each other, will use one language to communicate with the children. The father will speak English and the mother speaks Chinese, but the parents will talk Thai. Normally, we will talk, read tales, teach vocabulary in that language, and teach Thai when we read Thai tales. What you get from doing this is
🤔 Advantages:
- You can communicate in both languages, trying not to speak two languages in the same sentence, and you will ask words that do not know when they are in the sentence before speaking.
- You can listen to Thai when you find words or sentences that you often hear, listen and tell. We intend to come back to practice Thai in Thailand.
- Pronounced correctly in both languages (not mentioning the accent)
- You're not shy about speaking a different language, probably because it's natural in his talk.
- Can change the language that works naturally, but give him a little time. He'll probably use Chinese grammar in English for a while.
🤔 Disadvantages:
- You can speak a little slower, like he can understand, follow, but wait for him to be confident and ready to pronounce the word before he says it.
- Not as fluent as a single-language child. This one, we noticed from a friend in a single-language room, he speaks fluently and has more complex sentences at the same age.
No matter what kind of language each house promotes, we believe that every child can use that language to communicate to make new friends, learn new things every day. 😊
