POSTPARTUM FRIENDLY BATHING SUITS
My daughter was due in mid July last summer, so naturally I invested in some maternity bathing suits because I figured I would be super pregnant most of the summer and then ride out the rest of the summer at home in my newborn bubble. Well, my daughter apparently wanted to show me how silly that plan sounded to her so she decided to make her appearance at the end of May instead 😅.
I got about one use out of my maternity bathing investments and then quickly realized I now needed a postpartum bathing suit (we live in a lake town where everything revolves around the water during the summer), and turns out that was way harder to find! I thought by the time this approaching summer came around I would have “bounced back” but I still in fact do not feel comfortable wearing my little skimpy bathing suits that I wore pre-pregnancy, not to mention that the tops I used to wear are not holding anything up anymore 😭😂.
Anyways, just wanted to share this as it is so rare to find a good swimsuit that meets all those postpartum needs- especially in person where you can go try them on first! Bathing suits are such a gamble to order online 😳

Hey fellow mamas! Getting back into the water after having a baby can feel like a huge step, and honestly, a bit daunting. I remember feeling so excited to get back to the pool or lake, but then panicking about what to wear and if it was even safe. First things first, before you even think about diving in, make sure you've gotten the green light from your doctor. Typically, they advise waiting until your 6-week postpartum check-up, especially if you had a C-section or are still experiencing lochia. This is super important to prevent infection and allow your body to heal properly. Trust me, it's worth the wait! Once you're cleared, the next big hurdle is finding that perfect postpartum bathing suit. Like many of you, I quickly realized my pre-pregnancy bikinis just weren't cutting it anymore. My body had changed, and I needed something that offered comfort, support, and made me feel confident, not self-conscious. Here's what I've learned to look for when shopping for bathing suits for new moms: 1. Support is Key, Especially for Your Bust: If you're breastfeeding or pumping, you know how much your bust can change. Look for suits that offer good bust support, perhaps with built-in padding or underwire, similar to how a good sports bra feels. I've found some amazing two-piece options with V-neck tops that are not only stylish but also incredibly supportive and lifting. It makes a huge difference in comfort and how you feel! 2. Belly Coverage You'll Love: Many of us aren't quite ready to bare our midsections right after baby, and that's totally okay! High-waisted bottoms are a lifesaver. They offer gentle compression and help cover your belly, making you feel more secure and confident. I've seen some fantastic hot pink, textured two-piece suits that perfectly combine style with practical belly coverage, without being overly 'cheeky.' Tankinis are another excellent option, giving you the coverage of a one-piece with the convenience of a two-piece. 3. Fabric and Fit Matter: Opt for quality fabrics that are comfortable, quick-drying, and offer good stretch. Adjustable straps are also a must, allowing you to customize the fit as your body changes. Remember, comfort is paramount when you're chasing after little ones by the pool or lake! 4. Don't Forget Breastfeeding Access: For nursing mamas, consider suits with easy-to-pull-down or clip-down tops if you plan on feeding by the water. There are many stylish options out there now that seamlessly blend nursing functionality with fashion. Finally, remember that your postpartum body is incredible. It just created and nurtured a human! Be kind to yourself. Focus on enjoying time with your family by the water, making memories, and feeling good in your skin. The perfect postpartum bathing suit isn't about fitting into a pre-baby size; it's about finding something that empowers you to embrace this new chapter with confidence and joy.
