WHY WE DID OUR BABY’S CAKE SMASH AT HOME

Sooo in all reality we missed the window of her being in a good mood so we could do the cake smash so she had to go down for a nap before we got to the cake 🫣😂.

That said, I am SO glad it played out that way! It was so much fun doing her cake smash at home with our little family and just letting her be herself. I was honestly a little worried about her doing the cake smash at the party anyways because she’s a little shy and clingy so I don’t think it would have gone well anyways 😅.

This way I think was so much more fun for her which is what matters!

It truly made her 1st birthday celebration feel so special and stress-free, especially for a shy little one like mine. If you're wondering about setting up your own memorable moment, here's what I learned: Choosing the Perfect Smash Cake: One of the first questions I had was, 'how big is a smash cake for baby?' You don't need a huge cake! A 4 or 6-inch round cake is usually perfect. It's just enough for baby to get messy with, without being overwhelming. For our little girl, we opted for a small pink birthday cake with fresh cream and strawberries, just like the one you see in the pictures – it was delicious and so pretty! When considering a unique baby 1st birthday cake, think about natural ingredients. Many parents prefer a cake with less sugar, or even a 'naked' cake with just light frosting and fresh fruit. Fresh cream is a fantastic choice as it's often lighter and easier for babies to manage than heavy buttercream. Don't forget a cute '1' candle for that special touch! Fun Themes Beyond the Party: Even at home, you can embrace a fun theme! While some might look for a 'first trip around the sun smash cake' or 'sun smash cake' theme, there are endless ideas. Since my little one wore her adorable strawberry swimsuit, we leaned into a 'berry sweet' theme with actual strawberries on her cake. For parents planning a baby boy 1st birthday cake, consider themes like 'wild one,' 'little man,' or even a jungle adventure. The key is to pick something simple that allows your baby to shine. A colorful banner and tassel garland can instantly transform your space, making it festive without needing a big party setup. Setting the Scene for Your Baby Eating Birthday Cake: Creating the right environment is crucial. We simply laid down a white blanket (easy cleanup!) and set up the cake. If your baby is shy, a familiar spot in your living room or nursery can make them feel more comfortable. Make sure there’s enough light for photos – natural light is always best! Have a few small toys nearby, or even a wooden spoon, to encourage interaction if your baby is hesitant to dive into the cake right away. The goal is a relaxed atmosphere where your baby eating birthday cake can be a joyful, sensory experience, not a performance. What to Expect & Easy Cleanup: Be prepared for mess – that’s the whole point of a cake smash! Have wipes, a towel, and a warm bath ready immediately afterward. Trust me, you'll be glad you did. Seeing my daughter covered in pink cake, just enjoying herself, was absolutely priceless. It wasn't about perfect photos or impressing guests; it was about celebrating her milestone in a way that truly made her happy. And because it was just us, the cleanup felt manageable, and the memories were purely ours to cherish.
