SENSORY PLAY IN TARGET’S DOLLAR SECTION

When I tell you I was exciteddd when I walked into Target and saw SO many interactive/educational toys for such a good price!!

This is awesome for if you want to make a little sensory basket for your kids. Also nice because you can use these for a pretty big age range! My daughter is 14 months old now and obsessed with this stuff but she would have loooved these when she was younger too 🥰

... Read moreWalking into Target's $5 section always feels like a treasure hunt, and lately, it's been overflowing with incredible finds perfect for sensory play and engaging kids' activities! As a parent, I'm constantly looking for ways to entertain my little one and support their development without spending a fortune. That's why I get so excited when I stumble upon these kinds of gems. Sensory play is so vital for a child's development, helping them explore textures, sounds, sights, and even develop fine motor skills. But sometimes, specialized sensory toys can be quite expensive. That's where Target's Bullseye's Playground (often called the $1, $3, or $5 section) truly shines. I've found that they frequently stock a rotating selection of items that are perfect for encouraging exploration and learning. For instance, I recently spotted bins brimming with colorful sensory balls, each individually packaged. These are fantastic for babies and toddlers for grasping, rolling, and feeling different textures. For slightly older kids, they can be great for sorting games or even adding to a water table. I also found the 'SENSE & GROW Sensory Flash Cards', which are marked for ages 3+. These cards feature textured shapes, great for tactile learning and introducing basic concepts. Paired with the 'Sensory Disks' 2-pack, which included a sequin disk and a textured one for 'SENSORY FIDGET FUN!', you've got excellent tools for calming anxious energy or just providing engaging sensory input. Another fantastic item I picked up was a 'Rain Maker' toy. It’s a clear cylinder with colorful elements inside that create calming sounds and sights as they cascade. This is wonderful for a quiet moment or as a soothing tool. And for more structured play, look out for the 'ALPHABET CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY' and 'SHAPES CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITY' sets. My little one loves building, and these pieces are excellent for developing fine motor skills and early literacy or numeracy. The colorful, translucent, star-shaped 'Color Mixing Wands' are also a hit – perfect for light play, color recognition, and sparking imagination. Finally, don't overlook practical items like the 'KIDS PLAY MATS'. These are brilliant for designating a play space on the floor, especially when doing messy sensory activities, and they make cleanup a breeze. My top tip for shopping the Target $5 section is to check it frequently. The stock changes often, and if you see something you like, grab it, because it might not be there next time! Also, don't be afraid to think creatively. Even if an item is labeled for a specific age, you can often adapt it for younger children with close supervision, or combine different items to create a unique sensory bin. It's truly a fantastic resource for parents looking to provide enriching experiences for their children on a budget.
