... Read moreFrom my experience as a mom of twins and a toddler, I've noticed how parenting roles can often be viewed through a double standard lens. Society tends to expect moms to take on the majority of childcare responsibilities, while dads sometimes receive praise for doing tasks considered basic. This difference not only creates unfair expectations but also impacts how each parent sets boundaries around their parental roles. Setting boundaries is essential for both moms and dads to maintain a balanced family dynamic. For dads, establishing clear limits helps them engage more actively and confidently in parenting, countering stereotypes that suggest their involvement is secondary. Moms benefit from boundaries that protect their time and energy, helping to reduce burnout. I’ve found that openly discussing these double standards with family, friends, and even within parenting groups can foster greater understanding and support. Encouraging dads to participate equally and acknowledging their role not just as helpers but as co-parents reinforces shared responsibility. Ultimately, recognizing and addressing these double standards enriches the parenting experience for both moms and dads, promoting healthier relationships with the children and a more balanced home life. Embracing boundary setting as a tool empowers every parent to define their role authentically while supporting each other in the parenting journey.

DADS ARE PARENTS NOT BABYSITTERS
Some of us, myself included, got very lucky in the husband/father department. My husband is an absolute gem and an amazing father. But I know this is NOT the case for all dads. Some do the bare minimum. Some don’t do anything at all. And yet, society heaps the praise upon them like they’re some

Dads don’t need credit for doing the bare minimum
Something I feel has been going on for decades is the way society views and applauds moms and dads. Moms are often seen as the go to parent, the one who’s supposed to be doing it all no matter what! I wish we celebrated mothers whether they’re doing the bare minimum or going above the expectation!

Things Parents Realize Too Late in Therapy
