car advice needed!!

i have a 2015 jeep patriot that i absolutely hate. i really want to try to save and get a prius. but i have never bought a car before, i was gifted this one when i was 17, and now at 21 i need advice. i have found a few places by me that do payment plans regardless of your credit score, but ofc at higher rates. i dont want to be paying thousands extra on my car if i can help it! i know im more than likely going to have to finance this new car. should i try to finance it now as best as i can, wait and raise my credit score, or just save to buy it in full?

i genuinely dont know what to do. my dads always purchased his cars in full so he has no advice, but i know i cannot save enough for a new car for probably at least a year, and idk if this car will last that long.

any and all car financing advice is appreciated!!

... Read moreNavigating the car buying process can be daunting, especially for first-time buyers. For those considering a transition from an older vehicle like a 2015 Jeep Patriot to a more fuel-efficient option, such as a Prius, understanding your financing options is crucial. When you’re faced with higher interest rates due to low credit scores, it’s important to weigh your choices carefully. Here are some strategies to consider: 1. **Assess Your Current Financial Situation**: Before making a decision, evaluate your income, expenses, and how much you can realistically afford to pay each month. Setting a budget will help you during the financing process. 2. **Consider Improving Your Credit Score**: While it might be tempting to finance a car immediately, improving your credit score can save you money in the long run. Paying down existing debts and ensuring your bills are paid on time can gradually enhance your creditworthiness. 3. **Explore All Financing Options**: Many dealerships offer financing plans regardless of credit scores, but be wary of high-interest rates. Research various lenders, including credit unions and online banks, which may provide lower rates. 4. **Save for a Down Payment**: If possible, saving for a down payment can significantly reduce your monthly payments and might even help you qualify for better financing deals. A larger down payment lowers the amount you need to borrow, making financing more manageable. 5. **Get Pre-Approved for a Loan**: Securing pre-approval before shopping for a car can give you a clearer idea of your budget. It also makes the buying process smoother, as you’ll have a better understanding of the interest rates available to you. By considering these strategies, you can approach the car buying process with confidence and make a financially sound decision.
