... Read moreHey everyone! So glad you're looking for some new recommendations, because finding that perfect movie or show to cozy up with is truly one of life's simple pleasures. When I'm scrolling for inspiration, I often turn to my own tried-and-true favorites, and these four (plus a few bonus thoughts!) are always at the top of my list for different reasons.
First up, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Oh my goodness, where do I even begin with the gang? This show is absolute genius if you love dark, irreverent humor. It's fantastic for putting on in the background while you're doing chores, but trust me, you'll find yourself constantly pausing to catch the hilarious and often shocking dialogue. The characters are truly awful, but that's precisely why we love them! Episodes like the one with 'Denim chicken' or any of their 'CharDee MacDennis' games are just iconic. It's a masterclass in pushing boundaries and finding humor in the most politically incorrect situations. If you're looking for a laugh-out-loud sitcom that's anything but conventional, this is your pick.
Then there’s Coraline. This movie holds such a special place in my heart, even if it did give me nightmares as a kid! Re-watching it now, I'm just blown away by the stop-motion animation – it's absolutely stunning and so unique. The story itself is a beautiful, albeit dark, fairy tale about a girl learning to appreciate her own life and family. The way they portray the 'Other Mother' and the creepy perfection of the 'Other World' is just brilliant. And who can forget Wybie? He's such a loyal friend. It’s a perfect watch for a slightly spooky evening, reminding us that sometimes, what we have is already perfect.
For something completely different, Pride & Prejudice (the 2005 version, specifically!) is my ultimate comfort watch. I fell so deeply in love with the film that I just had to read Jane Austen’s original novel, and they're both equally enchanting. The chemistry between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy, the gorgeous English countryside, and that swoon-worthy soundtrack are just *chef's kiss*. It’s the kind of movie you can put on when you need to unwind and escape into a world of witty banter and timeless romance. Falling asleep to that beautiful piano score is honestly one of my favorite things to do. If you haven't experienced the "most ardently" declaration, you're truly missing out!
And finally, for a brain-twisting experience, Don't Worry Darling. This psychological thriller definitely had me on the edge of my seat! While some might say it felt a bit rushed, I actually think that added to the frantic, disorienting feeling of the film. It keeps you guessing and wanting to know more about what's really going on in that seemingly perfect community. The visuals are striking, and the tension builds wonderfully. It's a film that definitely sparks conversation afterward, making you ponder its themes long after the credits roll. It's a great pick if you're in the mood for something stylish, mysterious, and thought-provoking.
