Tea Advice Needed! 🍓🍑
I LOVE fruit teas from boba shops but I want to start making tea at home!
I got a couple tea bags from Walmart and just tried cold brewing for the first time but I’m not sure if I’m doing this right 😅
I’m a complete beginner, but I’ve always loved fruit/herbal teas or chai!
Do you have any recommendations on flavors or brands? Should I be adding things to the teas? Do you have any hacks?? I need some wisdom!

Oh my goodness, I totally get where you're coming from! That boba shop fruit tea craving is real, and trying to make it at home can feel like a puzzle. I've been on my own journey experimenting with homemade teas, and I've picked up a few things that might help you avoid some of the beginner pitfalls. First off, about cold brewing – you're definitely on the right track! It's fantastic for fruit and herbal teas because it extracts flavors gently, resulting in a smoother, less bitter taste. The 'cold brewing with frozen fruit' idea is super creative and can definitely work! The frozen fruit slowly thaws, releasing its juices and flavor into the water. Just make sure your tea bags or loose leaf tea get enough contact with the water. I usually steep my tea bags (like those Pomegranate, Blueberry, Strawberry, or Hibiscus Herbal Teas from the store) in a pitcher of cold water overnight in the fridge. For loose leaf, a tea infuser or a cheesecloth bag works wonders. The key is patience; cold brewing takes longer, usually 8-12 hours. When it comes to flavors and brands, the world is your oyster! Since you love fruit and herbal teas, look for blends that specifically mention being good cold or iced. Brands like Celestial Seasonings, Tazo, and Bigelow offer a great range of 'Caffeine-Free Individually Wrapped' options that are easy to find and taste delicious. Don't be afraid to mix and match! I've had great success with a simple peach black tea base, adding fresh raspberries and a slice of orange. For herbal options, hibiscus (from those Hibiscus Herbal Tea bags!) often has a lovely tartness that mimics fruit, and peppermint or chamomile can be surprisingly refreshing when chilled. You asked about adding things – absolutely! This is where the magic happens and how you can make your homemade fruit tea 'taste this good' like the boba shops. Sweeteners: A simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, heated until dissolved, then cooled) is a game-changer because it blends seamlessly into cold drinks. Honey or agave nectar are also great. Fresh Fruit: Beyond the initial cold brew, adding fresh fruit slices (strawberries, peaches, lemons, berries) or even a splash of fruit juice just before serving boosts freshness and flavor. Herbs: A sprig of fresh mint or basil can elevate a fruity tea in unexpected ways. Boba Shop Twist: If you want that boba shop feel, consider adding some popping boba, fruit jelly, or even making your own tapioca pearls! You can find kits online. My biggest hack for beginners? Don't be afraid to experiment! Start with a simple base tea you enjoy, then play around with different fruits and sweeteners. Keep a little journal of what combinations you liked and didn't. You'll quickly discover your perfect homemade fruit tea recipe. Enjoy your tea-making adventure!

I have never tried doing teas this way, but it sounds like a great way of doing it! I do often just throw teabags into cold water and refrigerate overnight, just not added frozen fruit to it also. Need to try this!
