LMK if you want a part 2! More details on this:

1. Protein overload is a myth. @sciencemeetscosmetics has a couple really informative posts debunking the idea of “protein overload” on IG that I always recommend looking into whenever anyone asks my thoughts on this topic! Two of the most common things I see people refer to as evidence for protein overload are breakage and a weird stiff/heavy feel in the hair. Breakage can be caused by SO many things, but if you have highly bleached hair, this is your #1 culprit as it makes your hair extremely fragile and susceptible to breaking. When your hair feels heavy/stiff, it’s often a sign you have buildup that needs to be removed. This can usually be easily solved by using a deep cleaning shampoo, and is why your hair immediately feels better after using one. It’s not because you’ve removed the protein overload, it’s because you’ve removed the product buildup.

2. I often see videos of people blaming their new shampoo for their hair loss, but that’s not how hair loss works (unless you’re having an allergic reaction to ingredients in it of course). Diffuse shedding is caused by internal factors, not shampoo! I have a more in depth video on this coming soon!

3. You know how much I love and swear by bond repair for damage and breakage prevention… but nothing is going to stop your hair from breaking off if you’re continuing to be too rough with it when brushing and styling. The force of harsh mechanical manipulation (especially when done repeatedly) can cause that snap in your hair fiber even if you have a great routine!
