DATING MYSELF

growing up & learning to slow down 🐌

I’ll never be 23 again and I want to take in all that I can. Spending time alone, doing something I enjoy, brings a level of clarity and comfort that’s needed every so often 🤎

... Read moreYou know, there's this wonderful concept I've been exploring lately, and it's something I wish I'd embraced sooner: 'dating myself.' When I first heard it, I wondered, 'What does 'dating myself' really mean?' Is it just being alone? Or is there more to it? For me, it’s truly about intentionally carving out time for myself, just as I would for a romantic partner, but with all the focus on my needs and desires. It’s not about being lonely; it's about cultivating a deep, loving relationship with the most important person in my life – me! I’m in my early twenties, and this period of 'growing up & learning to slow down' has been transformative. There's a unique clarity and comfort that comes from these solo moments. It’s a chance to truly listen to my own thoughts, indulge in activities I genuinely enjoy, and recharge without any external pressures. It’s like stepping back from the hustle and bustle of life to appreciate the quiet strength within. So, how do you actually 'date yourself'? It can be anything you love doing! For example, I recently took myself to see 'It Ends With Us.' While the book still wins in my heart, the experience of a solo movie night, treating myself to popcorn and just immersing myself in the story, was incredibly refreshing. No need to coordinate schedules, no compromising on what to watch – just pure, unadulterated enjoyment. But it’s not just about entertainment. It's about intentional self-care outings. Sometimes, it’s getting dressed up just for me. I remember one day, I put on my favorite denim corset top, a flowing white tiered skirt, and even my cowboy boots, just to go for a walk and grab a coffee. I took a mirror selfie, and that 'Fit Check & Let's Go' feeling was all about celebrating myself. It felt empowering to put in that effort simply because I was worth it. Other ideas? Try a solo brunch at your favorite cafe, explore a new part of your city, visit a museum, spend an afternoon reading in a park, or even just dedicate an evening to a luxurious bath and a good book. The key is to treat these occasions as special. Plan them, anticipate them, and savor every moment. What I’ve learned is that 'taking yourself on a date' isn't just a trend; it's a vital practice for personal growth and well-being. It helps me understand what truly makes me happy, allows me to process emotions, and builds my confidence in being independent. It reminds me that I don't need external validation to feel complete. As the article beautifully puts it, 'Spending time alone, doing something I enjoy, brings a level of clarity and comfort that’s needed every so often.' I couldn't agree more. If you haven't tried it yet, I highly recommend embracing the art of dating yourself. You might just discover your best companion yet!

Dating in your 30s …
Recently I have decided to actually try with dating. Throughout my 20s I would like one person and it wouldn’t work out and I would dwell on it for months at a time. Usually I would think about what I did wrong in the process. However the last few years I have really grown to appreciate myself more
