How to survive being a SAHM

Being a stay at home mom is beautiful, but it’s also so draining sometimes. You’re “on” all day, every day, with no breaks or clocking out. These are some simple things have helped me survive:

🌿Getting outside every day- even if it’s just a short walk or sitting on the porch, the fresh air completely resets both me and my baby. It’s such a simple thing that makes a huge difference.

🫧 Actually getting ready in the morning– I used to stay in pajamas all day, but changing into real clothes instantly boosts my mood and makes me feel a little more like me again.

🧺Letting go of perfection– the dishes can wait. The toys can stay on the floor. My worth isn’t measured by how spotless the house looks.

💬Talking to at least one adult daily– whether it’s texting a friend or calling family, having that little bit of grown-up conversation keeps me from feeling totally isolated.

💖Remembering this season won’t last forever– the days feel long, but they’re also so fleeting. I try to remind myself that one day I’ll miss even the messy, exhausting parts.

We may not get performance reviews or days off, but every smile, giggle, and snuggle is proof we’re doing something incredible. You’ve got this, mama!

... Read moreBeing a stay-at-home mom is a unique and deeply rewarding role, but it can also come with moments of isolation and exhaustion. Many moms find that incorporating small, intentional habits into their daily routine helps maintain both their mental and physical well-being. First, spending time outdoors every day—even if it’s just a brief walk or sitting quietly on the porch—can do wonders. Fresh air and natural light are proven to improve mood and energy levels, while also providing a calming environment for both mother and child. This simple connection with nature resets your mind and helps reduce stress. Another key factor is maintaining a simple morning routine that involves getting dressed and ready for the day, rather than staying in pajamas. This small act can psychologically prepare you for the day ahead, making you feel more like yourself and boosting confidence. Letting go of the need for perfection in household chores can be liberating. It’s vital to remember that your worth isn’t measured by a spotless home. Prioritizing your own and your child's emotional health over immaculate surroundings fosters a more relaxed atmosphere where everyone can thrive. Regular communication with at least one adult daily, whether by a quick text or call, helps combat the loneliness that sometimes accompanies stay-at-home life. Adult conversations nourish your social needs and provide support, encouragement, and an outlet to share experiences. Lastly, embracing the transient nature of this parenting season can bring comfort. Although days may seem long and challenging, knowing that this phase won’t last forever allows you to cherish the small moments—the smiles, giggles, and snuggles—that make motherhood so special. By integrating these ideas, stay-at-home moms can create a balanced daily routine that supports mental health and nurtures both themselves and their children. Remember, it’s okay to ask for help and take time for self-care—your well-being benefits the whole family.
