When I first tried sharing my views on sensitive topics, I was worried about losing followers or saying the wrong thing. That fear is natural and real—but something I’ve learned is that silence often speaks louder than words. When significant events unfold in the world, remaining silent can sometimes be perceived as indifference or disconnection. You don’t need to become a political commentator overnight or overhaul your entire content strategy. Instead, start simply by sharing stories that resonate with you or reposting content from trusted journalists and organizers who are actively on the ground. For example, resharing posts to your Instagram stories is an easy way to show your audience what matters to you without needing long speeches or complex debates. Sharing is powerful because it amplifies voices that might otherwise go unheard and signals to your followers that you care deeply about human struggles and justice. In turn, you might lose some followers who disagree, but you’ll gain genuine supporters who appreciate honesty and courage, and who want to feel represented. If you ever feel stuck or unsure about how to start, reach out to others who are already speaking up or even send a message to people willing to support you in crafting your voice. Nobody expects you to be perfect—authenticity is far more impactful. Remember, every voice counts, no matter how small it feels. Starting scared but starting is the key to building a community that stands for something meaningful. Our collective attention and willingness to engage with difficult topics can truly help drive change and support those affected. So if you’re hesitant, know that your platform can be a beacon of awareness and compassion. Start somewhere. Start small. And know you are not alone in this journey.
