Happy National Houseplant Appreciation Day 🪴

Happy National Houseplant Appreciation Day to all my fellow plant parents.

Here are a few items & plants that I have in the jungle room 🪴🌵🦎

1. These signs. A family member gifted me the reptile one & my best friend gifted me the plant lady one.

2. I am currently rehabilitating this little gem. She is a type of Alocasia (I lost the clearance sticker with the name 🤦🏻‍♀️).

3. I have always been OBSESSED with owning a plant with long and slender leaves. I finally caved and got this Philodendron Billietiae on the last day the nursery was open in 2024.

4. Such a basic pothos, but it was my first successful cutting that I rooted myself a few years ago. She definitely has a space in my heart.

5. I love anything and everything variegated. I wasn't planning on spending $20+ at the garden center, but when you find a wishlist plant, you gotta 😂

6. My Philodendron Florida Green is definitely my fastest grower. I was hoping to get her a support rod instead of the lampshade, but it's a little too short.

7. My little Thanksgiving Cactus. I call it my grandpa's plant because it was given to me as a mourning gift back in early December 2020 when I lost him 🫶🏻

I have a few more exotic and rare plants in the jungle that you'll probably see in my other posts 🫶🏻

... Read moreAs a fellow plant enthusiast, I know the thrill of adding a new green friend to your home, whether it's a common, easy-care variety or a rare find. While my collection includes some unique beauties, I always recommend starting with some tried-and-true houseplants, especially if you're just beginning your journey into the wonderful world of plants. You don't have to be a 'crazy plant lady' or guy to have a thriving indoor garden! Let’s dive into some truly common houseplants that are perfect for beginners and seasoned plant parents alike, offering beauty without too much fuss. These are often the stars of many plant collections because they are so forgiving and readily available. 1. Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata): If you're looking for an indestructible plant, the snake plant is your knight in shining armor. With its upright, sword-like leaves, it adds a modern, architectural touch to any space. They tolerate low light conditions and can go weeks without water, making them incredibly forgiving for busy schedules. Plus, they're known for improving air quality! 2. ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia): Another champion of neglect, the ZZ plant boasts glossy, dark green leaves that look almost artificial. It's incredibly drought-tolerant, storing water in its thick rhizomes, and can thrive in very low light. This plant is perfect for those who tend to forget to water, as it prefers to dry out completely between waterings. 3. Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum): A classic for a reason! Spider plants are incredibly easy to care for and are famous for producing little 'spiderettes' or plantlets that dangle from the mother plant, perfect for propagation. They look fantastic in hanging baskets and are known for their air-purifying qualities. They prefer bright, indirect light and consistent moisture, but can handle a bit of drying out. 4. Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum): Known for its elegant white 'flowers' (which are actually modified leaves called spathes), the peace lily is a graceful addition to any room. It's a fantastic communicator – its leaves will dramatically droop when it needs water, bouncing back once hydrated. It thrives in low to medium light and prefers consistently moist soil. 5. Pothos (Epipremnum aureum): As mentioned in my main post, Pothos varieties are incredibly versatile and easy to grow. Whether you let it trail from a shelf, climb a moss pole, or simply sit on a tabletop, its heart-shaped leaves and vining habit make it a favorite. It's forgiving of varying light conditions and watering schedules, making it an ideal choice for new plant parents looking for a successful first plant. There are so many beautiful types, from Golden Pothos to Marble Queen and Neon Pothos, each adding a unique splash of color and texture. These common houseplants are perfect for building confidence and creating a lush, green environment without too much effort. They prove that you don't need exotic or rare plants to enjoy the benefits and beauty of indoor gardening. Happy planting!
