PUT MY STUFF BACK ON

... Read moreIt’s incredible how much a few months can change everything, isn't it? Just thinking back to those first few weeks, it felt like an eternity until I’d be able to do anything 'normal' again. But here I am, AFTER THREE MONTHS, celebrating a massive win: getting cleared for standing work! This isn't just about physical progress; it's a huge mental boost too, and I wanted to share a little about what this journey has been like and what I've learned along the way. One of the biggest lessons? Celebrate every single small victory. Seriously. When you're in the thick of recovery, especially after a significant event, progress can feel agonizingly slow. There were days I felt like I was going backward, or just stuck in a loop. But then, there’s that moment, like today, when you realize how far you've come. Being able to 'put my stuff back on' – whether it's my regular clothes, specific gear, or just feeling stable enough to stand without hesitation – it’s a tangible sign that all the hard work, the physical therapy, the rest, it’s all paying off. For anyone else out there on a recovery path, my biggest piece of advice is to be incredibly patient with yourself. Your body is doing amazing work, even when it doesn't feel like it. I found it helpful to set mini-goals, not just the big 'end of recovery' goal. For instance, my first goal was just to manage to sit up for longer, then to slowly bear weight, and now, finally, standing. Each of these felt like a marathon in itself, but reaching them gave me the drive to keep going. Another thing that really helped was building a strong support system. My friends and family have been incredible, cheering me on and reminding me to rest when I pushed too hard. And don't forget the professionals – my physical therapist has been a game-changer, pushing me just enough without overdoing it. Communication is key; don't be afraid to voice how you're feeling, both physically and mentally. The emotional rollercoaster of recovery is real. There are days of immense frustration, sadness, and even anger. It’s okay to feel those emotions. What’s important is acknowledging them and finding healthy ways to cope. For me, journaling and listening to my favorite podcasts helped a lot. Remembering that '3 down, 3 more to go' isn't just a countdown; it's a testament to the progress already made and the exciting possibilities ahead. Every day brings me closer to feeling fully like myself again, and seeing this progress makes me incredibly hopeful for the next phase of this journey. Keep pushing, keep believing in your body's ability to heal, and never underestimate the power of a small victory!
