maybe not everything..
Growing up, many of us have heard the phrase, "We are your parents, we know everything." While this statement is often delivered with good intentions, it can sometimes create a disconnect between parents and children. From my personal experience, it's important to recognize that although parents aim to guide us based on their own experiences and values, they might not always understand the unique challenges or viewpoints that we face today. In my journey, I’ve learned that communication is key. Instead of accepting advice blindly, asking questions and sharing our own thoughts can help break down barriers. It's completely natural to feel that maybe parents don’t have all the answers — after all, every generation navigates its own set of challenges. Relatability plays a big role here. When parents acknowledge that they, too, are learning or uncertain sometimes, it fosters mutual respect and openness. This honest exchange can relieve the pressure of feeling like we must always 'do the right thing' according to their standards, and instead encourages us to develop our own understanding. Keeping secrets or worries bottled up can strain relationships. In my experience, creating a safe space where vulnerabilities are shared without judgment can lead to stronger family bonds. Don’t worry if your parents don’t have all the answers — sometimes, the most important part is just having someone who listens and cares. Ultimately, understanding that "maybe not everything" applies to all of us helps us appreciate the imperfect but loving effort behind parental guidance while empowering ourselves to make thoughtful, personal decisions.
