This cheesy artisan bread did NOT last long. 😮‍💨🧀

Recipe (save this ⬇️)

Bloom 2¼ tsp yeast in 2 cups warm water + 1 tsp honey.

In another bowl mix 3¼ cups bread flour + ½ tbsp salt.

Add yeast mixture, cover, and let rise 1 hour.

Stretch + fold in garlic powder, chives, and cheese.

Cover and rise 1 more hour.

Turn dough onto a floured surface, add more garlic, chives & cheese (trust me).

Fold into a ball, rest while oven preheats to 450°F.

Score, place into a preheated Dutch oven.

Bake 35 min lid on, 10–15 min lid off.

Rest… then slice into heaven 🤍🍞

... Read moreBaking artisan bread at home can seem intimidating, but this cheesy artisan bread recipe proves that with just a few simple ingredients and a little patience, you can create a bakery-quality loaf right in your own kitchen. The key to the perfect loaf is the two-stage rise, which develops the gluten structure while infusing the dough with flavor. One trick I love is the generous addition of garlic powder, chives, and cheese not only during the initial stretch and fold but also right before shaping the dough. This layering of flavors ensures every bite is packed with taste and aroma. You can experiment with different cheeses like sharp cheddar, Gruyère, or even mozzarella for varied textures and flavors. Using a Dutch oven for baking helps trap moisture, creating a crisp crust and tender crumb by simulating a professional steam oven. Don’t skip the preheating step at 450°F, as the intense heat is essential for the proper oven spring and crust formation. I also recommend resting the bread after baking to allow the crumb to set and the flavors to meld, making slicing easier and preventing a gummy texture. This bread makes a fantastic accompaniment to soups, salads, or simply enjoyed with butter. If you want to tweak the recipe, try adding caramelized onions or switching fresh herbs for chives. The versatility of this artisan bread makes it a perfect base for many savory creations. Give this recipe a try and you might find yourself baking it again and again—like me, it didn’t last long in my kitchen either!
