Emotional control can be used as a form of abuse‼️

Even if you don’t take away someone’s power to speak, you alter it when you play with their emotions. Emotional control can be used as a form of abuse. Before you get emotional about anything or anyone, take a breath. Think about what you’re doing. & use your heart but take your mind to be logical so you can’t be controlled by the changes in your emotions. Protect your energy‼️

... Read moreI remember a time when I felt like I was constantly walking on eggshells, always second-guessing my own feelings. It took me a while to put a name to it, but what I was experiencing was emotional controlling. It wasn't always obvious; sometimes it felt like someone was just 'caring' about me, but then I'd notice my decisions were no longer my own, or my reactions were always 'wrong' in their eyes. One of the hardest parts about emotional control is that it often starts subtly. It’s not always overt shouting or direct commands. Sometimes, it’s the constant criticism disguised as 'helpful advice,' or guilt trips that make you question your own sanity. I used to feel these pink emotion clouds swirling around my head, making it impossible to see clearly, as if my own emotional responses were being dictated by someone else's agenda. It felt like my internal 'black cat' – my intuition and independence – was being silenced. I learned that a key sign is when your emotional responses are consistently invalidated or manipulated. For instance, if you express sadness, they might make you feel guilty for being sad, or if you show anger, they might turn it back on you, making you the 'problem.' This can lead to a deep sense of confusion and a loss of self-trust. You start to believe your emotions are wrong, or that you're 'too sensitive.' What truly helped me begin to reclaim my power was recognizing this pattern. It’s like the article says: before you get emotional, take a breath. For me, that meant creating a pause, even a mental one, before reacting. Instead of instantly defending myself or internalizing their words, I started asking myself: 'Is this truly how I feel, or is someone trying to make me feel this way?' This simple act of stepping back allowed my logical mind to kick in, helping me discern what was real from what was being imposed. Protecting your energy, for me, became about setting boundaries. This isn't easy, especially when you care about the person. But I realized that my well-being was paramount. It could be as simple as limiting how much personal information I shared, or saying 'no' to demands that felt draining. It also meant surrounding myself with people who validated my feelings and respected my autonomy, rather than trying to put a 'crown' on my head only to control my every move. If you're going through something similar, remember: your emotions are valid. You have the right to feel what you feel without judgment or manipulation. Taking that breath, engaging your logical mind, and learning to protect your energy are powerful steps towards breaking free from the cycle of emotional controlling. It’s a journey, but one where you reclaim your peace and your authentic self.
