Franklin Park Zoo
Our first trip to Franklin Park Zoo during the day and it was such a good one!
Teddy has been obsessed with African painted dogs for a while now, so when I found out they had them here, I knew we had to go. He carried his painted dog stuffed animal around most of the day and was so excited when we finally got to see the real deal.
It ended up being one of those outings that just felt easy. Plenty to see, lots of space to walk, and a good mix of animals. We took our time, stopped for snacks, and just let him lead the way.
Definitely one of those “why didn’t we do this sooner” kind of places, and I can already tell we’ll be back.

Taking a trip to Franklin Park Zoo offers not just a chance to see exotic animals, but also to create lasting memories with your family. My experience there was truly delightful, especially watching the children’s excitement when spotting unique creatures like the African painted dogs. These remarkable animals are known for their collaborative hunting strategies and striking coat patterns, making them a fascinating sight for visitors of all ages. The zoo is designed with ample walking space and rest areas, perfect for families with toddlers who might need to take breaks or enjoy snacks in between exploring. What stood out to me most was the relaxed pace we could maintain — letting the kids lead the adventure made the experience more engaging and personalized. It felt less like a rushed tour and more like a fun day out in nature. Franklin Park Zoo also offers educational signs and interactive exhibits that intrigue young minds, encouraging curiosity about wildlife and conservation. Aside from the painted dogs, the collection includes a variety of African animals and other species, providing a well-rounded visit. For parents in the Boston area, this zoo is a hidden gem that combines entertainment with learning, making it an ideal destination for family outings and toddler activities.
