Pack with me
Packing up our swim bag and making it work for this season we’re in.
We decided to pause swim lessons while Gareth is out of work, so we’re being a little more intentional about getting Teddy in the water on our own. It’s not as structured, but he still loves it, and it gives us a chance to keep building those skills together.
Our bag is always a little overpacked: his swim vest, a mix of sinking toys and floating toys, three towels, and usually some shower stuff so we can rinse off before heading home. It’s a whole routine, but having everything ready makes it feel a lot less chaotic once we get there.
Swim days might look a little different right now, but they still feel just as important.
Packing for swim days can feel overwhelming, especially when you're managing it all on your own. Over time, I’ve found that having a well-prepared swim bag packed with the right essentials makes all the difference in keeping swim outings smooth and fun. One thing I never skip is including a mix of sinking and floating toys. These toys are not just for entertainment; they’re vital for Teddy’s practice, especially when working on skills like putting his face underwater. Using a variety of toys helps keep him engaged and motivated to try new techniques. I always bring three towels—this might sound like overkill, but it’s a lifesaver. One towel is for drying off after swimming, another for changing, and having a spare ensures I’m prepared for any surprises like extra splashes or a soggy change of clothes. This small detail reduces stress significantly. The bag itself is a mesh design, which I love because it dries quickly and holds a lot without getting heavy. Having a durable and roomy bag lets me organize all the swim gear and still easily find what I need when we arrive. Swimwear comfort is key, too. Teddy’s favorite swim shorts are comfortable and quick-drying, paired with a swim top he loves to wear. Having gear that fits well and is easy for him to move in makes swim lessons and free swim time more enjoyable. Lastly, shower essentials tucked in the bag mean we can rinse off immediately after swimming, helping maintain hygiene without hassle. This routine might seem simple, but it creates a feeling of readiness and calm that I appreciate on busy days. Adjusting from structured swim lessons to more casual swim days with Teddy has made me realize how important being prepared and intentional is. It’s not just about packing a bag; it’s about creating a positive, relaxed swim experience that supports his skill-building and our family time together.
