Early Reading practice

We try to keep everything really low pressure and work it into things we’re already doing throughout the day. At the grocery store, we’ll spell out items and have him find them, or give him certain letters to look for in different aisles. At home, we read a lot and point to words he already recognizes so he can connect what he’s saying to what he sees on the page. It’s nothing fancy, just small, consistent moments that add up over time. #earlyreadingskills #reading #parenting #preschooler

... Read moreIncorporating early reading practice into everyday activities can significantly boost a child's literacy development without adding stress for either parent or child. From personal experience, I found that making reading fun and interactive turns learning into a natural part of a child's day. For example, involving kids in tasks like finding items on grocery lists not only stimulates letter and word recognition but also encourages concentration and memory skills. At home, pointing out familiar words during storytime helps children connect spoken language with written text, fostering confidence and enthusiasm for reading. Consistency is key—even brief moments focusing on letters and words daily make a big difference over time. Additionally, encouraging children to sound out words and celebrate their progress builds motivation. It's important to maintain a relaxed atmosphere and avoid pressure, so children associate reading with enjoyment. Using everyday opportunities to practice reinforces skills in a meaningful context. Activities like letter scavenger hunts around the house, labeling common objects, or creating simple word games can extend learning throughout the day. This approach not only supports literacy development but also strengthens parent-child bonding through shared, playful learning experiences. With patience and creativity, early reading practice becomes an enriching part of your child’s growth.

Blending & Segmenting: Reading Building Blocks!
Blending is when kids put sounds together to form words (like /c/ /a/ /t/ = cat), and segmenting is when they break words into individual sounds (cat = /c/ /a/ /t/). These skills are essential for decoding and spelling! 💡 Why They’re Important: Blending helps children read unfamiliar words.
