... Read moreStepping into the Medieval Torture Museum in Chicago was an experience I won't soon forget! I've always been fascinated by history, especially the darker, more unsettling parts, and this museum definitely delivered. It’s not just a collection of artifacts; it’s a journey through a brutal past that makes you deeply reflect on human nature. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was thick with a chilling sense of dread and curiosity. You're immediately confronted with incredibly realistic displays that bring the historical accounts to life. One of the first things that caught my eye was a detailed representation of the rack torture device. Seeing the mannequin with outstretched limbs on that wooden frame, it really hit home how agonizing such a punishment would have been. It's a stark reminder of the pain endured, far beyond what you might imagine from just reading about it in a book. Further into the museum, I encountered the infamous iron maiden. It’s haunting to see such an iconic symbol of medieval torture up close. While its actual historical use is debated, the sheer idea of it is enough to send shivers down your spine. Another exhibit that stood out was the spiked chair. Imagine sitting on a chair where every surface is covered in sharp points – the display showed it so vividly, it was truly unsettling. You also see various cages, like the one designed to cover a person's torso, leaving them exposed and vulnerable. These aren't just props; they're meticulously recreated historical instruments that tell a powerful story. One section even depicted the grisly practice of sawing, illustrating the extreme creativity, however morbid, that went into these methods. It’s hard to look at, but impossible to turn away from. What struck me most was how the museum presents these exhibits not just as gruesome displays, but as educational pieces that highlight a very real, very dark chapter in human history. It prompts you to think about justice, power, and the evolution of human rights. For anyone looking for creepy medieval exhibits, especially around Halloween or just for a unique adventure, this place is perfect. It’s more than just a spooky attraction; it's a profound, thought-provoking delve into ancient torture methods and the societal norms that allowed them. If you’re ever in Chicago and want to challenge your perceptions of history, I highly recommend dedicating a couple of hours to this truly eye-opening experience.

this place is interesting and weird I love it but fun fact is not all of them were used to torture. some of these were just ideas they found in juronals and back then they wanted to try but never went through with it for whatever reason they didn't. it could of been it was to complicated, the budget or wasn't as easy as they thought it would be. 🥸
