Gummy review

So I discovered back in December that I’m allergic to pork which means I can’t have any food with gelatin which is heart breaking because gummies are my favorite.

I picked up these Lily’s Sour Gummy Worms today from Target and I’m gonna rate them a 6.5 out of 10

Let’s break down that review.

They are so hard and tough to chew and kept getting stuck in my molars. Think like a now and later but so much worse because you were expecting it to be chewy. The flavor did grow on me after a while but they are very mild flavor wise. I jokingly told my partner that they were the la croix of gummies because it’s like someone whispered to them about the fruit they are supposed to taste like.

At the first few worms I would’ve rated them a 3 but that number increased because as time went on I kept enjoying them more and by the time I finished I wished I had bought a second bag.

I will purchase these again.

... Read moreMy journey to finding the perfect gelatin-free gummy has been quite an adventure since discovering my pork allergy. It's truly eye-opening how many popular candies rely on gelatin! That's why when I spotted Lily's Sour Gummy Worms, boasting features like 'less than 1g sugar,' 'no added sugar,' and being 'made with stevia,' I was immediately intrigued. For anyone navigating dietary restrictions, these labels are a beacon of hope, promising a sweet treat without compromising health or dietary needs. Beyond the gelatin-free aspect, another huge plus for me, and I'm sure for many of you, is that these are certified 'gluten-free' and 'non-GMO.' It's fantastic to see a brand address so many common dietary concerns in one product. While my initial review focused on the texture and flavor, diving deeper into what makes these gummies unique is essential. Many sugar-free candies can taste artificial, but Lily's uses stevia, a natural sweetener, aiming for that 'Tart 'n Tasty Fruit Flavors' experience without the sugar crash. Speaking of health, a common query I've seen about Lily's gummies is regarding fiber content. While this specific bag didn't highlight fiber on the front, many of Lily's products do include added fiber, often from chicory root fiber. For those looking to increase their daily fiber intake, sugar-free gummies can sometimes offer a surprising way to do so. However, it's always good to check the nutritional label, as high amounts of certain fibers or sugar alcohols can sometimes lead to digestive discomfort for some people – something to keep in mind, especially if you're sensitive. Which brings me to another query I've noticed: 'Lily's Sour Gummy Worms diarrhea.' It's a valid concern, particularly with sugar-free products. Ingredients like erythritol or stevia (often combined with other sugar alcohols in sugar-free formulations) can act as a laxative if consumed in large quantities. This isn't unique to Lily's but is a common side effect of many low-sugar or sugar-free alternatives. My personal experience with this bag didn't lead to any issues, but I also didn't devour the entire bag in one sitting! It's always best to start with a small serving to see how your body reacts, especially if you have a sensitive stomach. Moderation is key with any treat, but particularly so with sugar-free options. Comparing these to other gelatin-free options, Lily's definitely stands out for its commitment to natural ingredients and its 'no added sugar' promise. Many other gelatin-free gummies still contain significant amounts of sugar, which might not be ideal for everyone. For someone like me who loves the sour kick, finding a healthier alternative that still delivers on flavor is a win. Even though the texture was a bit of a surprise at first – much firmer than traditional gummies – the evolving flavor profile and the satisfaction of a guilt-free treat made me a repeat buyer. If you're on the hunt for a 'sour gummy' that fits into a gluten-free, sugar-conscious, or gelatin-free diet, these are absolutely worth a try. Just remember to manage your expectations on chewiness and enjoy them incrementally!
