Culture and Geography

Scholars researched the culture and geography of any one of 20 Latin nations and territories. Scholars examined culture by using resources which explore arts, historical figures, and food of their selected Latin nation. To align with CCLS, Scholars drew directly from informational texts as the basis for their findings.

This project-based unit required scholars to construct a model of a monument from the country of their choice and produce a poster displaying their findings. #achievementlabenrichmentinc

... Read moreThe relationship between culture and geography is deeply intertwined, especially in Latin America, where diverse landscapes influence a wide range of cultural practices. For instance, countries like Venezuela boast vibrant artistic expressions influenced by their rich natural resources and history. In educational projects, students not only gain insight into the historical significance of monuments but also understand the socio-cultural narratives that these structures represent. The outdoor environments of Latin nations lead to diverse culinary practices, allowing students to discover traditional dishes that reflect regional ingredients and local customs. Each country's unique narrative is portrayed in students' posters, further enriching their learning experience. Through analyzing famous landmarks, such as the 'Middle of the World' monument in Ecuador, students gain valuable insights into how geography shapes national identity and cultural pride. In exploring arts, students learn about pivotal historical figures who contributed to their nations' identities, showcasing how culture thrives in different geographical contexts. This connection is essential for understanding the complexities of modern Latin American societies, where historical events and geography coalesce to form the backdrop for contemporary cultural expressions. By engaging in such comprehensive research, students can appreciate the multifaceted layers of identity present in Latin America, as they examine how geography impacts cultural evolution and vice versa.
